[h=2]Today, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, an ardent gun control advocate, moved to politicize the monstrous school shooting in Connecticut, issuing the following statement:[/h]With all the carnage from gun violence in our country, it?s still almost impossible to believe that a mass shooting in a kindergarten class could happen. It has come to that. Not even kindergarteners learning their A,B,Cs are safe. We heard after Columbine that it was too soon to talk about gun laws. We heard it after Virginia Tech. After Tucson and Aurora and Oak Creek. And now we are hearing it again. For every day we wait, 34 more people are murdered with guns. Today, many of them were five-year olds. President Obama rightly sent his heartfelt condolences to the families in Newtown. But the country needs him to send a bill to Congress to fix this problem. Calling for ?meaningful action? is not enough. We need immediate action. We have heard all the rhetoric before. What we have not seen is leadership ? not from the White House and not from Congress. That must end today. This is a national tragedy and it demands a national response. My deepest sympathies are with the families of all those affected, and my determination to stop this madness is stronger than ever.

If Bloomberg?s deepest sympathies were with the family, he wouldn?t use this as an opportunity to get on his soapbox about gun control. We don?t know all the facts of the case yet, Connecticut has some of the most restrictive gun control laws in the country, and it seems that the shooter obtained his guns legally.

**If you don't have firearms, purchase them now. Get ready for a MASSIVE push for gun control from the Obama administration**

To me this isn't about guns. It's about mental illness and our society's inability to properly treat it properly.

It's never about personal responsibility for your own actions. It's always about "what can we blame?" "Who can we blame?"

No amounts of personal responsibility are going to bring those kids back, or the movie theater victims back, or whatever the next horrible incident will be.

Banning guns would be a very ineffective solution to this problem. Educating the public to remove the social stigma that is often accompanied by mental health issues at least has a chance to save lives.

The crazy are not in control of their actions, that is the very definition of crazy.

Yeah take guns away. Real classy. All these wacko's will do is get them through the underground and most do, and us with rights to bare arms are turkeys in freaking barrel. Another knee jerk action by a politician that doesn't live among us.

If guns are so bad, why is Bloomberg's personal security detail armed?

You're 100% right. Inside of the Capitol beltway, all of the liberal politicians (boxer, reid, Van Hollen) that are incredibly anti-gun, ALL have personal ARMED security details outside of the capitol police.

Under Bloomberg:

No sodas larger than 16 oz
No food donations to the homeless
No guns
Stop and Frisk searches W/O warrants

This guy is a severe danger to our constitutional liberties and the jackoffs in NYC keep electing him.

I agree, I would be fine with a ban on guns if it would actually solve the problem. people need to be diagnosed early as mentally unstable they either end up as politicians or harming people like this nutjob.

America as we know it has begun to crumble completely beyond repair. Liberals leading a nation will ultimately cause more harm with more restrictions and regulations. The outside nations laugh at our ability to jump into foreign conflict while refusing to fix the issues destroying our own nation. America is not united, it will not overcome its path of self destruction. The only people who can fix this nation are those who's ideals are considered too harsh or unfair. It's discusting to say the least, but everything we are seeing holds true to what was originally believed by our forefathers. We've crumbled from within our own boundaries, we've diverted in directions this country never stood for. The only chance is for people to come together...and we're all too different for that to even be a realistic option.

people are gonna demand a answer to this, and there isnt one. sux, I would have taken a bullet if it could have saved one childs life, you never see a pussy like this walk into a gang infested inner city basketball court and attempt this crap, they would get shot before the pull their guns out.

He quite literally buys the elections. He can outspend any opponents.

Bloomberg is a liberal nazi. He sits behind tax payer funded walls of security, all of it armed to the teeth. And if he stops being a public figure, he can pay for any protection he wants. But for the regular folk, he gives a big fat FUCK YOU! He is the elitist's elitist.

You wanna slow some of this shit down or maybe end it? Take a real hard look at changing the liberal psychiatric policy of de-institutionalization for crazy people for Christ sake. If you are nuts, and you even show the slightest break with reality or willingness to harm yourselves or other, off for a Thorazine holiday for you. Now the shrinks believe it is better to push these people out into society with some misguided notion that they will adjust.

This was in the funny picture thread, but oh-so-relevant here:

We share a 3,200 mile border with a shitty third-world country, and that border leaks like a sieve. We supposed to get rid of guns with that shit going on? The UK can't manage it either, but the US is supposed to? We import and export 20% off all the world's out put, and we have a total of 8,700 miles of border.

Anyone that thinks that banning guns in the US is a good thing is a fucking moron.

You know what? I think I just figured it out. They ban all the guns and the law abiding citizens get mowed down by criminals. Then they beef-up the armed presence of the police in the USA and...BANG...armed police state. I think that's what they're aiming for.

The Brady Campaign vultures have already started circling.

this is coming from the mayor who banned XL sodas and Meat on mondays...

They also run the democratic senate and presidency.

This ^^ All over the country they have been militarizing police forces. Combine that with anti gun laws and we are helpless to defend ourselves. Police do not stop crime, they investigate it (and often perpetrate it) a gun in your dresser drawer or on your hip can stop crime. Call 911, the crime will likely be committed by the time the police get there.

They also run the democratic senate and presidency.
I'm just tired of the finger pointing which results in neither side doing anything but complaining that they want to act but the other party is blocking them. Reality is neither side has an answer or wants to be attached to a failed policy so the sit back do nothing but pull favors for the lobbyist who control the country now

America as we know it has begun to crumble completely beyond repair. Liberals leading a nation will ultimately cause more harm with more restrictions and regulations.

you should try learning US history and some historical economic data before talking about what the left has done to damage the country...

the US economy of 2012 is the end result of Reaganomics. the "liberation" of finance, reduction of taxes on the top earners and on capital (which have suppressed US interest rates on bank savings/checking deposits to record lows), the deregulation of the markets along with the state sponsored union smashing that took away the ability for labor and US wage workers to see earnings increase with productivity as they had for the 40 years prior.

the war on drugs which kills more people than it saves and the rise of the US for profit prison industrial complex, which incarcerates non-violent drug offenders whose housing is paid for by the tax payers and the profits of these "businesses" go to the investors on Wallstreet. The 80's saw the beginning of the rise of ALEC, pretty much every bad piece of legislation that revolves crime and punishment has come out of this group of nazi sympathizers.

by the end of his last term 138 of Reagan admin appointees had been either convicted, indicted, or had been the subject of official investigations for official misconduct and/or criminal violations.

Good luck. I can't get him to admit that he needs to absolve GWB if he does so for Obama, or he needs to find both guilty. And I've had no luck so far.
