Hi,
I have heard both ways as to the truth about eating carbs before bed. I know that a lot of people say eating carbs before bed gets stored as fat.

I am on a strict fat loss diet right now and i am trying to adjust my daily menu for maximum fat loss, and I am wondering what the truth is about this? I am trying to figure out the contents of my last meal of the day but I am worried about too many carbs before bed. I figure cottage cheese, a boiled egg, or a fat free yogurt might be alright.

Please let me know if carbs are not good before bed while on a fat loss diet. Thank you!!! :)

It all depends on the individual. I can eat lentils, beans, and brown rice before bed and not have any problems. Sugars are a bad idea. Usually a protein and fat meal right before bed is ideal for staving off catabolism during the 8 or so hour stint with no food. Id say keep them low or minimal, but it all depends on you.

there is no reason to consume carbs before bed (unless you are bulking). free fatty acids are the primary energy source for skeletal muscle at rest. elevated serum insulin levels also suppress GH release so lipolysis would not be maximized during sleep...

So then should we maybe not eat before bed while on a fat loss prodram? I usually end my last meal at 8pm and I go to bed around 10:30 or 11pm.

Thanks.

No. Eat before bed. Sleep is when your body isnt getting 3 hour feedings, so to combat this you need a slow burning source of proteins and fats. Remember for losing fat its bad to skip a meal.

protein and fats. I would try to eat 15-20 minutes before going to sleep...

my favorite has always been cottage cheese and peanut butter with MAYBE a half a teaspoon of unsweetened cocoa.

Some lean meat and almonds or walnuts?

Cottage cheese is a better before bed source than lean meat in my opinion, it is a longer lasting protein source.
