Is it ok to get in some cardio at night if I lift weights in the morning ?

Yes, I want to build muscle... but my main goal is to drop this 30 lbs of fat. I'm a beginner, so I should be able to accomplish both at the same time ... to a point.

So, will doing cardio at night on the same day I hit the weights in the morning be counter productive in any way ?

thanks

It is ok to do so; however, I would do cardio in the morning and weight lifting at night. The best thing is to do cardio first thing in the morning before you eat anything just have water because your body is been fasting and is empty of carbs and Cals, so you will start burning fat.

yep Ive heard that a million times and im sure it works great..i just wish i could wake up early enough to try it also lol

Actually, it's not that the body is empty of carbs, it's because when you sleep your body uses free fatty acids for energy, so they are already circulating in your blood when you first wake up.

The only other times this is happening is after your work out or after HIIT (high intensity interval training)

Other than the fact of that, while running a caloric deficit you're asking for issues like increased cortisol and general malaise if not sickenss or injury. How many NET calories are you going to give your body to work with after working out twice a day?

I go twice..... bcaa only cardio in morn then breakfast then weights then big lunch after
this seems to work for me and I have no prob with energy ect

fraseram, to be fair, you're already in excellent condition. To the OP, if you're running a reasonable - but not outrageous - deficit with plenty of protein and healthy fat, you can do a little cardio after your workouts and/or in the AM. And you can walk as much as you wish. Walking seems to fly under the radar of a lot of overtraining-signals. chronicelite is quite correct wrt FFAs of course - but that part matters more as you become leaner. For the time being, you'll preserve muscle just fine if you lift heavy while you diet down. Create most of the deficit through diet, use the lifting to preserve lean mass and do a little cardio to enhance the effect, nothing more. Read the link in my sig on getting started for more on this.

yes.... you are right ( I forget that I have been working out for years ) what may seem easy to me and not a big stress on my body may not be the same for the next person. we are all unique and have diff levels and bodies

You also forget that you're lean, and not eating at a deficit. Very different ballgame, even for the same person. :)

you can do hours of cardio (and lose fat) whilst developing muscle - have done this myself as proof it works.

best to supplement whilst negative calories though - EAA's intra (with added leucine) & plenty of glutamine between meals & before bed.

and muscle...exercise in the fasted state is extremely catabolic. the body always utilizes energy from fatty acids, glucose and amin acids. the ratio of each substrate used depends on energy demands and the availability of that source. when one source is low the body increases the ratio of the remaining two so when exercise is performed in the fasted state and serum glucose is low the ratio of amino acids and fatty acids increases.

this being the case if you are going to do cardio in the am in the fasted state best to at least ingest some whey/BCAA's or amino acids prior to exercise.

You can, if you're fat and weak when you start.

Why?

If you're lean, yes. If you're fairly fat, not a problem.
