I'm starting a bulking phase next week and i was wondering if i could work some Total with raisins into my diet. I love cereal. I know it's pretty high on the GI, so i was probably gonna eat it post workouts with some whey & water and a banana or two. Any problems with this? I know there are better cereals, but the thought of eating All Bran makes me want to throw up. Are there any other cereals that are pretty healthy? Raisin Bran, Wheaties, Grapenuts, granola?? Thanks for the help.

The cereals you mentioned have alot of sugar in them with the exception of granola, but it depends on what kind you get.

A little cereal ain't gonna kill ya. If ur worried about the GI, make sure to combine it w/ protein. And about the post W/O, thats exactly what I do sometimes. I just have some whey w/ water and then a bowl of my fav kiddy cereal w/ skim milk for some fast carbs. But I am also not a food nazi w/ my diet like some on the boards.

I just found this Bear Naked Natural Granola. IT IS AWESOME!!! And there are different ones, I like the Peak Protein.
Here's the lowdown:
Whole grain oats, wildflower honey, soy flakes, esxpeller pressed canola oil, fruit juice sweetened cranberries, soy protein isolate, sunflower seeds, crisp rice and barley malt, whole grain flax meal, cinnamon.
1/4 cups has:
7g fat (0g Trans Fat)
140 calories
0 Cholesterol
25mg sodium
15g carbs
3g Dietary Fiber
5g Sugar
5g Protein

Maybe it won't affect you it but how do you know it's not going to affect other people? Not everyone can get away with having cereal even occassionally. That's why it's always best to choose the right kinds. I will provide a list momentarily.

Not bad but I would be concerned about the canola oil and the fruit juice.

Did you not catch the part of the reply that said " I am not a food nazi on my diet like some on these boards." I never told him to do that pwo but I was just telling him what I do ocassionally to change things up. Alos, what is so terrible about getting ur fast carbs from cereal instead of gatorade or Dex occassionaly?

No I caught that. But I also saw the part that said you a little cereal won't kill ya. So that's what I was commenting on. Some people it can kill their diet. Not everyone has the self control of being able to have "a bowl" of cereal. Competition dieters cannot have cereal etc... I think gatorade and dextrose are worse so you don't want to go there :)

I like Kashi Go Lean Crunch also. It has a good amount of fiber in it.

fiber doesnt mean that its a good choice always.
KGL crunch is full of sugars and additives. It would not be something I reccomend.

I agree with you Jodi that cereal can hurt one's diet. especially since I do not find them filling or satifying for the most part.

I kinda was too as you never really know how much of either is used.

:funny: Just a little funny on the side:

My husband will get "one bowl", (or so he says), but then he fills the bowl up about 3 times!

I just look at him in amazement -- because he does this @ night....right....before....bed. I'd be :barf:

Is there something wrong with canola oil?

A cereal that I was recommended to eat was Koshi "GoLean" cereal anytime that a your diet called for a carb/protein combo. Its not too bad. But raisin's were not "in the diet"... :(
