its heroin. smoking pot and drinking will do nothing to rellive withdrawl symptoms.
This is true. Even if you have all the comfort meds listed in all of the 'home kick remedy' threads on the drug forums, it's heroin, you're still going to kick hard as fuck. Some people do get really bad anxiety when they are going through withdrawals, so it might help some with that particular symptom. You're still going to have that unbearable RLS / kicking feeling that will make sleep damn near impossible regardless of what sleep meds you have, the full body chills / sweats, fever dreams when you do sleep, body aches, etc.
I always suggest going to a free medical detox if money's an issue. If you have insurance, that's even better - you can find some with 5-7 day programs that use IV Buprenorphine to do a quick taper.
Probably the easiest way to kick if you're not going to a detox is to find some suboxone and taper off as quickly as possible. Some people have great success tapering right off of it, other people get hooked on the subs (i.e., after the tapering period ends they experience the milder withdrawal symptoms that subs are known for). I wouldn't recommend methadone to anyone unless it's just a quality of living thing (if you've been a homeless heroin addict the last twenty years and you're probably going to die from your addiction, methadone may be the drug for you). I would recommend suboxone to some people. If your lifestyle is such that you can't completely cut yourself off from other people who use heroin, then this might be a good alternative. I know from firsthand experience that a person can be 100% functional on suboxone. After you see your doctor a few times, you only go once or twice a month. The clinics tend to be in normal offices, not in the same neighborhoods where you go to score heroin like the methadone clinics. It's an okay fix for a fucking horrible problem. Nothing more, nothing less.
