http://www.concordmonitor.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20040912/REPOSITORY/409120359/1037/NEWS04.....Yet, despite the rhetoric, there is not a single published academic study showing that the ban has reduced any type of violent crime. Even research funded by the Justice Department under the Clinton administration concluded only that the ban's effect on gun violence "has been uncertain." When those same authors released their updated report in August looking at crime data up through 2000 -the first six full years of the law -they stated, "We cannot clearly credit the ban with any of the nation's recent drop in gun violence."
The reason for these findings is simple: There is nothing unique about the guns that are banned under the law. Though the phrase "assault weapon" conjures up images of the rapid-fire machine guns used by the military, in fact the weapons covered by the ban function the same as any semiautomatic hunting rifle; they fire the exact same bullets with the same rapidity and produce the exact same damage as hunting rifles.
Exactly. That is why I find it stupid. Other funny thing we are doing is that "give it away the gun to the government thing" to reduce violence. Like the criminal is going there. Stupid society.redspy said:Except the criminals, right?
It is really necessary to point out his ethnicity in this way?Chain Link said:...The owner is a greedy jew(No, literally) who would just as soon promote a bigger ban for his own reasons..
I just found it funny, because of the stereotype, and the fact that he really is(I do consider it as mere coincidense). It wasnt intended as anti-semetic.redspy said:It is really necessary to point out his ethnicity in this way?

I know what you're saying, I didn't think you were being deliberately mean. I'm not Jewish, but I have a few friends who are that get upset by these type of off the cuff remarks.Chain Link said:I just found it funny, because of the stereotype, and the fact that he really is(I do consider it as mere coincidense). I think the only thing from S&W thats ever interested me was their ammunition, because the H&K USP comes in 9x19NATO, .40S&W, and .45(ACP?), but the .45 has a slightly different design, and I like the design that the 9 and .40 have. 9mm is known for its low stopping power; its great if you're on top of things, but if someone is close enough to smell their breath, then you just need a big bullet to spread, cuz it would probably end up in their gut, lol. So that .025 caliber difference in size for the same gun is a bit appealing, but 9mm is so incredibly common.. Im 20 this month, so I still have a year to debate which Id perfer.. I dont think Ill ever need to use a firearm, but if a situation ever comes up, theres alot to lose.redspy said:I know what you're saying, I didn't think you were being deliberately mean. Anyway, do you stear clear of S&W firearms too?

Chain Link said:Aside from that, S&W has never offered anything of interest to me, So I really know nothing about the company. I can avoid Colt, because so many other companies make their rifles. I do like their m1991a1 series, but if I wanted a big pistol(an accurate .45) Beretta's M92F is basically the same gun, and beat colt in accuracy(I believe that was the reason, correct me if Im wrong) which won them our military conract.
LAM said:Beretta was hurting for sales in the late 80's and early 90's. I'm pretty sure they were giving the gov a very good deal on the 92F's also...

I've wanted one for a while, but never bought one. A group of guys is going to do a build and I think I'm going to join in on the fun. What I'm more excited about, however, is getting a can for my H&K USP Tactical. That's what I really want.
Hey Var, you actually can own machine guns. You have to live in a state that doesn't outlaw them, get a (usually) law enforcement signature, pay a $200 tax to the BATF, and then wait for your paperwork to come back. It's the same process for suppressors. The 1934 National Firearms Act is what you have to follow. In 1986 a law was passed prohibiting the sale of newly manufactured machine guns to civilians. An M-16 would cost someone like me somewhere between (I think) $10-15,000. A friend of mine has two of them, both with suppressors.
