anyone tried any recipes with less PB or a lower fat substitute? i wouldnt mind sacrificing some of the flavor or consistancy for getting it a little lower in fat since it would be nice to have a couple of these a day for a snack.

The first post contained under 20% fat.

^yeah ive been educated on the importance of getting enough fat since then.

ive made these and they are great. i had to add more water when i mixed them up in the bowl but the preperations are spot on!i might try mixing the whey and pb together to evenly distribute stuff a bit more next time since the first batch seemed to have more chunks of pb. the taste is good. more peanut buttery than sweet. might need a little splenda sprinked on top if your looking to sweeten it up a bit.

a friend wants to me to make these for him so i figured out the unit cost per batch and bar. i could probally use some double checking though.

oatmeal $2 a box. 15 cups per container 2 cups per batch .13 cent a cup =$.26 cents a batch
whey $13 per container.30 scoops per container 4 per batch. $.43 cents a scoop= $1.73 a batch
pb $3 a jar.14 servings per container(8 tbsp per batch =about $.85 a batch

total cost $2.84 cents a batch. .47 a bar. cheep as a mofo...

macros to come soon. so far mine seem different than the ones on the first page.

I use a 5-grain hot cereal mix along with the oats. Add a little honey and a few chocholate chips as well. I throw some flour in there as well to give in more structure. I've used soy flour in the past because it has so much more protein but I've also heard soy isn't that great for men. Anyone else know about this?

^ive heard something about soy producing excessive estrogen in men or something. id have to google for a while.
i have been making variations of bars lately with nuts sprinkled on top and cinnamon on top and they are tasty.

i even made a instant version where you mix pb,oats, splenda, whey, and water in a bowl and stir it around for a minute. its like chocolate peanut butter heaven.

does this recipe look healthy?

1 cup of peanut butter
3 cups oats
??¼ cup of orange juice
??¼ cup of apple sauce
2 ??½ scoops of whey powder (I use it, but itâ??????s optional)
1tsp of vanilla/ vanilla extract
2 beated egg whites
1 cup Milk powder
??¼ cup Raisins
1 banana
2 table spoons to ??¼ cup of honey, depending on how sweet you want it

^^ does the orange juice make it taste better?
can orange juice be used in place of water or milk?

hello by the way! :-)
i'm currently preparing my diet /meal plan for my body for life program (and myoplex meal replace bars will get too expensive) so i've started looking at how to make my own.

oh, by the way - if i decide to take them to work with me, wont they become gooey again after being away from the freezer?

the orange juice is just a good bonding agent
no, you have to cook it for about 15 minutes @ 300 degrees or until sides are crisp

lol - now you tell me! :-)
i made this yesterday altho i used:
1cup oats
about 4 scoops whey protein (pro-lab Nlarge 2)
some nuts/ fruits
spoon of peanut butter (organic)
added water and mixed.

it's turned gooey on me and i'm trying to eat it now but it's still gooey away from the freezer.
i'm gonna make some more tonight and i'll put it in the oven to harden it.

thanks

I think I will try this next week for some protein snacks.Supposed to go on another cut and I am seing all these good snacks :pissed:

i just finished making these and they were good... i didn't want to waste my whey in case i screwed up so i halved the ingredients and just used 1 cup of oats, 2 scoops of chocolate peanut butter whey, 1/4 cup of natural PB and 3 tbsp of water... i agree the final consistency may depend on the size of the scoop you're using for your whey... but mine worked out well... the ingredients mixed together were quite sticky and gooey but i just got my hands a little wet and hand mixed them haha... if you decide to mix it this way i highly recommend wetting your hands first otherwise the ingredients will just stick to your hands like super glue... anyways, i just pressed them into a tupperwear container and put them in the freezer for about half an hour, cut them into 4 squares and they turned out great... talk about craving a glass of milk with them though :P

Mine came out a little gooey, I must have used too much water. I made them last night when I saw this thread. I used natty pb and they taste awesome. Everyone who tried them said they taste like Christmas cookies minus the chocolate. Good stuff.

So any answers on whether these turn back to goo when away from the freezer? Common sense would tell me that when they melt they are back to dough. Any way to remedy this so you can grab em and go when in a rush?

Is it ok to use quaker oasts for this recipe?

Any one cares to post a pic?

nkira, it shouldn't be a problem.

Bump for this thread.

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

Cool! I am gonna try it.

Let me know if/how fast they melt.

Sure, I'll be fixing it on Saturday or may be Sunday.....but no later.

Okay, I couldn't wait, So I just made some,

It's the same recipe but everything is in grams! I used half of what was recommended.

Oats - 55g (Quaker)
Whey - 60g (24g Protein per scoop, Cappuccino Flavor)
PB - 110 g
Water - 110g (Oats are sucker for water!)

I used plastic tray to freeze it, the one's that come with box of chocolates.

It's sitting in freezer, took a pre-freeze snap.

I freeze them first for an hour on wax paper. I then put them into a plastic container in the fridge. They stay nice that way.

So, I tried this recipe today, and I just finished doing up the macros.. either the opening poster was way off, or I went wrong somewhere, cause each bar is apparently nearly 600 Cal! Had a heck of a time finding uncooked large flake oats on Fitday, so I went to Bulk Barn's site for that info. These are still in the freezer, so I haven't tried them, but as people have noted that it can be gooey, I made sure I added a little milk at a time as it bound. I will probably cut the oatmeal in half next time, and add in some other type of nut to lower the carbs a bit.

Ultimately, I think it would be best to divide the batch into 10 parts, which will yield these totals:

I didn't have waxed paper, so I used foil, it didn't turn out too bad, though it did stick a bit, I will use waxed paper next time for sure. There were a couple bars which seemed crumbly. I haven't tried one yet, but I munched on a couple of crumbs and they tasted good. I don't mind plain peanut butter so I don't have an issue, some people may find it a little bland.

I still need to do the "day test" to see if it withstands a couple hours in my locker at school. They are quite sticky, almost a molasses stickiness, if this becomes an issue, I may shake them in some sort of oat or ground nut.
