I can only do three sets of 12.... what can I say... I need more practice

You're female, correct? That is damned impressive, especially if they are full ROM. Even if you're a male that is very respectable in my opinion. I would say the vast majority of people skimp on dips and their numbers are incredibly inflated.

Yes female.... Is that really good???? Here I thought I was :lame: ...

I feel better now! Thanks!:D

uh...yeah...there are lots of guys who can't do that...full ROM....
have any pics of the arms? Show the 'horse shoes?'

Not yet,,, I'm pretty self conscious & super-critical about the way I look... I will try to get some posted...

well, I am sure you look just fine. You don't take progress pics to see how you are doing?

I haven't - Actually my husband said just this morning that he wished he would have taken pic's from when I started...

I'll try to post some... I really don't think I look THAT bad, I just want to be better.

:rolleyes:

well, no time like the present. Do u have a journal? (forgive my being too lazy to go look..)
:)
I'm sure you don't look bad.
Do you and your husband workout together? I've found out that when I have worked out with a girlfriend..I am about 20% stronger...see..my ego IS useful...
:)

Dips give me crazy shoulder pains as I do them, but I can still manage about 15-20

No, no journal... I'm fairly new to this site.. My husband and I do workout together in the morning at 5:00 - It works the best for our work schedules and it's alot easier for me, because he's not afraid to push me and give me a spot when I need it. Plus our gym isn't so jam-packed at that time in the morning.

me too. (am workouts) I work alot...so if I don't make it in the am..chances are I am not gonna get to go...
well...start one! just go to the journal section and start a thread. we, will watch, encourage, give advise (if needed/wanted) with your progress.

I'll do my best to get on it and start one! It would be great to have encouragement and feedback on progress!

we have a big 'family' of people who will do just that...and as you have probably noticed, alot of them are certified PT's and competitors. They are happy to help give pointers and such.

That wasn't directed at you, but I just think inflated numbers are more common than they should be. Sometimes it's simply from ignorace; a good example is how most people deem a full ROM squat stopping before it actually gets hard.

I'm assuming full ROM would be going down until you're arms are parallel??

The reason I ask this, is before this thread I never really watched anyone do dips.. well, last night while I was doing cardio which is on the 2nd floor of our gym and looks down over the weight area.. this guy was doing dips and I swear he was only going down MAYBE three inches or so.....

And he was doing alot of them..:D

I was just messing around.:D

I probably do cheat a bit, I don't have the flexibility to go all the way down to parallel. If I go down that far it feels like my anterior delts are going to rip right off the bone. I try to go down as far as possible though.

I did 28 fresh last night and was wondering what other IM members could do. So I searched for this thread and as I expected, y'all humbled me. :D

I usually do dips after working chest, but just mixed things up last night.

I'm with CowPimp on this one. Everything depends on the details. I mean if you don't go low on dips sure you can do a lot more. Also many people go so fast and swing their legs around (even more common with pull ups), that it makes the exercise easier to do.

Like pull ups or any body weight exercise the more often you do it the better you get at it. Gymnasts for example could whip most bodybuilder with dips because they do the harder muscle ups. They also train their upper body more times in a week than most bodybuilders so their muscle adaption for their upper body is often better. Most gymnast I know know how to train for muscle endurence, power and strength.

Most bodybuiders I have met just want to look like they can do 50 dips! Also some people lockout on the top of dips, others don't. If you go slow, medium or fast will also determine how many consecutive dips you can do.

slow= 20
medium= 24
fast= 29

The last time I've done dips I hit 44 with my bodyweight.

I have done 44 when trying to rep it out. I do dips alot but wieghted most of the time. I have got where I can do 8-10 with a 100lb. plate now but it is at the end of my set and heavy as shit. I have not tried to do a burn out in a while though so I might be able to do more than 44 now. I have just started a test prop. only cycle too though so I assume things will increase a litttle now hee hee :rocker:

Somewhere in the 52-55 range last time I checked, but I always do them at the end of a heavy pressing session, so I'm pretty exhausted. :shrug:
