Definately dont rob yourself of sleep, that is a big mistake for a lot of young folks. I knew a really huge guy in high school, and ripped to boot, he was short - not sure if he toyed with roids or what that he ended up only being about 5'6" (Italian), at that height he probably had about 18.5" or 19" arms, he was that freaking huge, and probably about 6% or 7% bodyfat, massive chest, yada yada.
Some protein is fine, don't be an ego-lifter and hurt yourself in the gym, use weights you can work strictly with, and remember the sleep! 9-10 hours is my opinion, thats what I got during my HS days and I still prefer to have 8 or more a day, and I had no problems growing. I was a huge milk drinker my whole life, and still have a hard time not having it at every meal, I'm 26.
