Just wondered if anyone knows what these actually do? (apart from being good for your skin)

I heard somewhere not to have them, but a friend told me his mate who used to compete would have the sauna to make him leaner before a competition, i wondered if they could actually help you cut up in anyway?

It helps reduce water weight. When I go in, I take weights and bands and work out constantly to get a good sweat goin for about 15 min...then cold shower....then back in for 10......helps me shrink my skin. I usually drop 5lbs each session. Sometimes less. Depends on how much water I'm holding on to and how hard I work out in there. Also, take if you decide to use the sauna. To get a REALLY good sweat going, take a water bottle in with you and constantly squirt water in the coals. Talk about hot HOT:hot:

so is reducing my water weight just a short term beneift of the steamroom/sauna?

I'm assuming my skin will shrink and so my muscles will be more defined afterwards? how long dose this last? should I do this like once or twice a week or something?

sorry i don't know a thing about these things, and the fitness instructors at my gym just babble rubbish about them, i don't think they know what thet do either, lol

Water reducing is always temporary in my book.

Heat expands your pores. By taking a cold shower after, you shrink your pores which results in tighter skin. By doing this, you're not going to walk out of the sauna looking all defined. Especially not after your first couple of sessions. It also depends on how much water you consume while you're in the sauna(while in the sauna, I don't drink any water. I use a cool cloth sometimes) and when you go home. You're losing water, not fat.

How long does it last: Well, that depends on you and how strict you are with your diet and how much water your drink.

I'll give you an example: When I go in and lose 5 pounds of water you can bet I gain atleast 2 of it back by the next day. There are days where I gain it all back by the next day.

Young D: Don't apologize for asking questions. That's what we're here for. Actually, that's what we're all here for. Ask questions, get answers........maybe even something more......:D Just kidding.

Young, everyone is different. Keep that in mind. What works for someone else may not work for you. Experiment a little and take mental note.:thumb:

It can also facilitate recovery by opening the circulation. I think there is actually a debate out these days as to what is better a sauna or cold shower. I would just have to believe the heat would force more nutrients into the muscles which should aid recovery, but that's my guess.

I gotta do it after training or I'm sore all day.Anything hot, steam, water, air opens up circulations gets oxygen to the cells and aids recovery also loosens muscles.I need at least 15 minutes usually in combination then icey shower.Love it.There is no debate,it works period.

yeah, i go steamroom after each workout.. it's soothing and relaxing for.. iono if it's just in my head or if it's really doing somethin to my body, either way, i enjoy it.. also sit in spa after which is very nice too

I really notice a huge difference in recovery from intense training.try going without and compare.
