Hey everyone, Im 24 6'3 258lbs, just to give you an idea of my body type. My question is what are the effects of pretty much just doing cardio? My diet is pretty good, oatmeal in the morning, some type of fruit and water mid day, chichen breat and brocolli for lunch and a salad for dinner. By 8pm i go for my walk which is about approx 4 miles, and if you live in florida you know it still about 90 degrees outside. I was big into the gym but when my girlfriend had the twins i was unable to hit the gym like I use to with the same intensity so im pretty much stricken to the cardio workouts when she gets home. I do have a somewhat muscular build. What am i looking at muscle wise just doing this much cardio 6 days a week? to be honest the only real weights i get to work with are lifting doodie diapers into the diaper pail..lol...thanks for the help everyone...

I'm not expert on this, but you will definitely lose some muscle mass after periods of no weight lifting. Walking isn't really intense cardio, so it shouldn't cause you to burn much muscle at all, but you should see if there's anything you could do around the house for weight training. Push ups, crunches, dumbbells, whatever you can do, that wont take a whole lot of time.

I'll just let someone more experienced than me verify all this though.

Well aslong as you're not losing or gaining weight then you should be ok I guess. If you were losing weight, you need to lift to send the message to your body that you muscle is needed, and to not burn it off(which is what the body can do, when in a cal. deficit) If you're gaining weight, then the chances are you'll gain mostly fat w/out lifting. Everyone is diff. but I expect you might lose some muscle, but very little, but it all depends on your body. If I were you i'd get a bench and some freeweights, so that you don't have to worry about going to the gym.

With that much cardio your body will eventually adapt to your training and you will burn muscle or what's left after your continous schedule. Your metabolism will also slow as your not "building" anything with cardio but rather tearing down but it is something and has its place, you really can't manage some short 1/2 sessions a couple of times a week in place of your cardio??

5 sessions at the most IMO. And diet has as much bearing on muscle loss as heavy cardio. If your not consuming enough protein, your body will break down muscle tissue for energy via glyconeogenesis.

Keep the cardio at low intensity - your walking sounds good - to also prevent catabolism.

thanks for the help guyz. Since i dont really have that much time because i got my kids to take care of, Im using things around the house to kinda work with. Like im using the babies double stroller to do bicep curls, and my girl is helping me do lunges and squats by hoping on my back. So hopefully doing this kinda semi-routine will help me loose the weight, and get to where I want to be.
