Am I the only person who has become extremely annoyed by the constant bombardment of low carb advertisements/promotions lately?

Let's take Subway for example:

Today they introduced some new "Atkins Friendly" wraps in an attempt to lure low-carb dieters into thinking they're getting something that's healthy and guilt free. What they don't tell people is that they're getting a wrap that's made of piss poor ingredients, and meat that's so processed and salt laden that I wouldn't feed it to a homeless cat. Sure, low-carb/no carb dieting can help the obese get down to a reasonable weight in the absence of exercise, but even healthy, active, young people are adopting such diets when they can easily enjoy wholesome, whole-grain carbs without gaining any weight. The country is becoming frightened of carbs and they don't have to.:(

Thoughts?

Yeah, low-carb sucks. I completely agree with you. People go too low carb and end up screwing up their thyroid function and metabolism forever. People need to realise that eating whole grains can keep them lean for life, carbs are not the enemy, eating crappy calories instead of quality ones is. Oh well. Better low-carb than low-fat, I guess.

Peace.

I like low carbs and I have never been obese. I dont get extremely fat eating carbs but I do gain noticeable measurement increases on my waist by the very next day based on the carb type and amount.

low carb is the current trend in dieting so the restaurant industry is capitalizing on this trend, any restauarant that doesn't is not very smart IMO.

low carb dieting is very effective, and it works well, this has been proven in clinical studies as well as the general public.

I think that it's only right to try to profit off of the "new" popular diets. When everyone was in search of FF items, a lot of places started coming out with FF alternatives. I think you can make any sub a wrap though at subway, it just doesn't have to be what they advertise, so it can still be very healthy.

I don't like low carbing it......but, like prince said, it is effective.

P-funk though you have what I would call a good metabolism, from the looks of you anyway.

Now something like low carb beer seems like a joke.

I agree that it is effective..IF YOU KNOW HOW TO DO IT PROPERLY without screwing up your metabolism..some people go low or no carb for way too long with no refeeds, this is VERY dangerous especially to the athlete and to a greater extent the bodybuilder IMO.

Peace.

While I do have a prety fast metabolism I said I didn't like low carbing it. This doesn't mean I don't do it when i need to. regardless of whether I like it or not it does work.

Low carb beer is a great way to make sure that you get your daily 5 liters of water

everyone is doing the "atkins diet", so subway and others are just offering the items on their menu, they're not advocating a diet per se.

I think what they are doing is great, and I plan on trying one of those wraps! :lick:

I don't know, why don't people just continue eating carbs, but replace processed carbs with whole grains, and exercise a little? People are always looking for the easy way out.

Peace.

yeah, i understand that.

i also agree that it's a very effective way of losing weight, but i don't think it's a healthy lifestyle to adopt. generally, the people i know on the diet are afraid of carbs. they think carbs will make them fat. that's not the case. it's the misconceptions that people get because of the low-carb push that bothers me. most people don't even really understand how/why it works.

for example, some friends of mine went out partying this weekend and sucked backed 15 beers each. today at lunch, they were saying things like "yeah, i've gotta make up for this weekend with a low carb lunch." one kid was even drinking a soda with his wrap.

"oh, there's carbs in soda?"

Because that is to complicated for to many people to understand........KISS-keep it simple for stupid.

All or none approach is much easier for people to digest (no pun intended)

ROTFLMAO at Nate "Oh there's carbs in soda?"...AHAHAHAHAH

Peace.

I am not sure there is any evidence to support a low carb diet as being unhealthy, it's been around for decades, but only until recently popularized in the main stream.

I think it is fine as long as you can maintain it and use "refeeds".

i dont think the subway sandwiches are bad...

but i get an atkins wrap with JUST VEGGIES, and just a little bit of FF itl dressing...

bad? decent? good?

is a 6inch for lunch a bad idea?

subway was losing a crapload of money because of low carb diets and decided finally to get on the bandwagon somehow. they had a terrible year and are trying to find a nitch to get back in. this is what i heard from a franchisee family member of mine.

Care to base this statement on anything?

tuna sandwiches will turn you into a man... they are full of yummy goodness... get the best Whole Wheat natural bread you can find and put a whole can on two slices of whole wheat bread... YUM

Tuna Sandwiches will turn me into a fat man (bread). Then again I suppose I'm a bit portly right now anyway.

Right, my statement was somewhat unfounded, i agree. It's just something I feel to be true. I didn't mean to pass it on as though it were a fact..

I think people need to consider the long-term when looking at the diets they choose as a lifestyle. Look up the "okinowans" sometime and look at what they eat...

When I look at carb heavy cultures I see diabetes.

which is why i kept the term SINGULAR... 10 of any kind of sandwiches will make you fat... that's why I recommend... ONE sandwich... I know it's a big jump Mudge... but just consider it...

**runs for cover**

:haha:

agreed... everyone at work looks at me funny when i dump an entire can of tuna onto 2 slices of bread with some mayo...

oh well, it's not like the can doesn't fit on 2 slices... not to mention it's tasty too!

Also who wants to eat like a okinowan?
id rather just limit carbs.

at home, for my tuna sandwich...

Instead of wheat bread, just get one longgg peace of Romaine, drain the tuna (i use a couple paper towels to dry it up as well) i rarely ever use any bit of tuna, even if its fat free. a lil olive oil, dash of pepper and some red:confused: purple cabbage

good meal?
