ive been diagnosed with a t8-t9 disc herniation recently, as such im not lifting any more, i want to give it the best chance of healing, pain started nov 2012 and i continued to lift (i didn't know what the injury was at that time) it didn't improve. I've now not been lifting for probably 2 months, injury has started to improve (it's clearly not fixed) the issue is im pissing off body weight, im naturally very lean small bone structure i think ive lost a stone since november! (not all of this is muscle but still ive clearly lost some) any advice??

Unfortunately, you're going to loose muscle mass if you don't train, there is no trick to avoid this and not much to slow down the process either. On the bright side, you'll likely be able to get to where you are quickly when you're good to train again. In the meantime, your goal should be to maintain a healthy weight and try not to gain too much fat. You can do this by following a relatively clean diet and do anything active that you can do safely without halting the healing process.

I think the best thing you can do personally is eat as clean as possible right now this will help
you in the fat department to help you stay away from increasing your BF. Train as much as possible
just be careful with your injury for sure that's important also and make sure that you eat small pors

First off, do not do anything your doctor says you shouldn't. Second, are exercises that do not directly load the spine still not suggested? This is probably a better question for a doctor or physical therapist. I would think that it would be safe to do some light weight accessory exercises that do not load the spine, but I am not a doctor and would seek doctors clearance before starting.
