Ironically - the forms were my favorite part of TKD. I couldn't care less for sparring or anything. But the forms... beautiful.MaxMirkin said:I took Tae Kwon Do long enough to realize that there was a much heavier emphasis being placed on looking pretty, rather then being effective.

Too bad it's kinda useless in real life. I think my next martial arts attempt will be Aikido.

I think I can help....chiquita6683 said:this thread and that article i posted has really intrests me,
plus i saw a creative breaking competion on tv last weekend and this one guy took off his robe thingee, laid on a bed of nails and broke something w his elbows, and i was amazed at their flexibility, they jumped and did a split in the air to have enough force to break bricks i think. and they broke all this other stuff "creatively". but some of it was just dumb, like this 1 guy broke things over his head.........yeah thats something to be proud of.
can someone plz explain the kinds of martial arts, what it works on, what itd be good for, ect............plz take into account, that i know Nothing about martial arts, not even the order of belts, what aikado is? jui is tsu? muy tai ching? they all sound like sushi dishes to me or something like that![]()
Kickboxing is a generic term nowadays though, just like karate is a generic term. Karate is Asian, while Kickboxing is an American term . Still generic terms that cover a broad spectrum of styles from their respective parts of the world.Robert DiMaggio said:kickboxing is not the same as karate.
Thas what I'm talknig about ...Arith said:Ive been training in Mixed Martial Arts at Straight Blast Gym for about 6 months. Its a combonation of Ju-jitsu, Kickboxing and Wrestling. No forms, no belts, just great teachers and full contact sparing. Its a fantastic workout.
bulletproof1 said:i was curious how many here have had any martial arts training of any kind. i am considering taking up karate or something. anyone care to ellaborate on their experience?
Im surprised you feel that way, honsetly! I have been training in the MooKwang form of TKD with grand Master Tae E. Lee, 9th degree black belt(about 5"2, 120 pounds all wet, like 100 yrs old, can still do jumping side kicks 2 feet above my head!! Im in aweeee!) for years now. While forms are part of the curriculum, sparring, techniques and actual practice make up most of the classes.MaxMirkin said:I took Tae Kwon Do long enough to realize that there was a much heavier emphasis being placed on looking pretty, rather then being effective.
