Do you EVEN FUQQING care?
I have heard conflicting reports on the maximum amount of protein your body can use at one sitting. Some say 30grams is the max and anything above that just gets flushed down the toilet. Others say there is no max.

I just bought Meso-tech meal replacement and it has 52grams of protein in one serving, but I don't want to waste it if I can't digest more than 30grams.

What do you think?

BTW all the proteins, meal replacements, and mass gainers I have tried taste like Sh*t!! Any suggestions?

I have also heard that you should take your weight in grams i.e. if you weigh 180 take 180+ grams in protein each day... if that is true then you would have to be stuffing down some grams at each meal.

Can anyone confirm or kill that theory???

mmafiter, try making a smoothie type drink with it... I use bananas, pinaple juice, and a frozen fruit mix of blueberries rasberries strawberries (comes in a frozen bag) it comes out pretty good.

Maybe there isn`t a max but until there is 100% proof that it won`t be wasted I am going to stick with 25-30 grams 40 tops six meals a day.

You do that.

Why wait for science to prove something bodybuilders have known for years?

And I guess your talking from all the years of experience you have. Science and research have nothing to do with your knowledge of bodybuilding.

In my 3 years of experience and the thousands of years of collective experience from a shitload of BBers.

LOL, and yeah I just pull all my posts out of my ass, they have nothing to do with anything, bahaha...

You go eat your 20g of protein per meal, doesn't hurt me any.

OK Mr. know it all, no where did I say I had 20 grams of protein per meal , Maybe while your up your ass pulling out all these posts you should try looking for your brain.

Muscle Gelz Transdermals
IronMag Labs Prohormones
I've never heard or read of a limit.
I sometimes take upwards of a 100 grms at sittings.

I do beleive that there are varying amounts between people as to how much protein can be absorbed and used for its multiple functions.

I really don't think that a 200 pound BB and a 170 pound BB's body can handle the same amounts of protein taken in.

Any thoughts?

Haha, some people are so stupid...i.e. shmoo.

Anyhow Maki, everyone (just about) ignores that fact that protein does more than just repair damged tissues...it also is converted to carbs and used as energy via gluconeogenesis and depending on your calorie level more or less will be used as energy.

As a general rule of thumb - higher cals = less protein intake, the lower the cals = more protein intake.

*** Maybe they are just misinformed?

*** I agree.

*** I actually will be doing the exact opposite when I'm going to diet in Jan.

Thanks guys, didn't mean to start a war though. I guess it's good to discuss differing opinions.

A good way to threaten somebody is to light a stick of dynamite. Then you call the guy and hold the burning fuse up to the phone. 'Hear that?' you say. 'That's dynamite, baby.'

Some times STB contradicts himself. I could have swore he said something totally different one time.

Maki, misinformed is perfectly fine, insulting others because you are misinformed and have no other means in responding and refusing to accept information that would serve to inform you, is stupid.

Oh, and what is your logic behind high carbs for dieting?

Carbs are a energy source.
Keep the fat low, protein moderate (1 grm per pound) and carbs high.

I've used this method before.
Worked well.
Just gonna try it this time except not cut my cals much at all.

This is something Mr A uses on his clients when prepping them for a contest.

TSB I never said there was a limit on how much protein one can take all at once. I simply stated how much I take which is more than enough for my bodyweight. I have done a lot of reading myself and I know what is working for me. You do have a lot of correct answers but your problem is how your answers are interpreted. You have a way of pissing some people off around here and that is why some of these threads get out of hand.

Hypocrite.

If everyone could stop flaming, this could be a productive and informative thread.

Maki, are you not concerned w/ muscle loss on a high carb, low protein cutting diet? When I cut, I usually go 50% protein. I think it helps maintain current muscle mass and any extra protein is used for energy. Did you lose any mm last time?

Maki, don't you think that higher protein would be better because:

1. Protein can be converted to carbs and used as energy if overeaten, while if carbs are overeaten they are automatically stored as fat.

2. Protein blunts insulin secretion lowering the potential for fat storage, carbs spike insulin raising the potential for fat storage.

3. Protein helps to reduce cravings due to it's tryptophan and tyrosine content, carbs increase cravings because they mess with serotonin levels.

4. Protein is the most thermic of the macronutrients, making it desirable to eat more of it because raising the bodies temperature increases metabolic rate.

5. Protein requires 30% of the calories it contains just to digest it, i.e. if you eat 100 cals fromt protein you burn 30 of them during digestion, allowing you to eat more protein than carbs.

And the list goes on and on........

I get some real bad gas when I eat to much protein. Maybe I'm eating to much?

Most people would have a hard time getting ripped on a high carb diet, there are probably a minority of people (most likely ectomorphs) that can get away with this.
I find that a high protein, low/moderate carb, low fat diet works best for me.

------------------
Just because the majority believes it, does not make it true!

This usually happens when you increase your intake too fast. Try increasing it slowly over at least a week, maybe two. And make sure to drink extra water.

*** I lost nil muscle.
