For serious ... we needed a new pullup thread. Why? Because. Pullups rock ur dome.

My dip belt (well, in this case pull-up belt) should be coming in teh mail next week. My goal is to do pullups, obviously starting at one, with plates equaling my body weight hanging off the belt.

I realize that's a hefty goal, but see no reason why I couldn't accomplish it. It is, afterall, somewhat the equivalent to one armed pullups, if not slightly easier, maybe. And we all know those are possible.

I'm pretty freaking stoked to get working on this. Are you stoked for me?! I hope so!

Google "Beast Skills" Great info on 1-arm chins and chinning progression. There's also info on how to build shit to help you reach these goals. Can you do a 1-arm negative chin?

I would switch back and forth between weighted and BW pullups and stretch everyday. I think doing moderate weight pullups for whatever your max BW reps is right now is a healthier goal. I personally would not want to do fewer than 3 reps with huge weight. I'm not trying to discourage you- I just think it is important to figure out why a BW + BW 1 rep pullup is your goal? What is your max BW pullup now? :)

Good Luck on your goal!...:) I have been workin on pullups as well, can only do 3-4 right now. Been tryin different ones, I did the towel pullups and the one's where you jump up and hold for a few seconds.

whats your bodyweight?
145ish.

I want to challenge all of theeeee huge dudes at my gym to contests; I can do more pullups at their body weight than they can. The prize will be I get their ladies. It will rule. I will crush.

Lots of boobies for me.

I need to start somewhere. Going for 1 pullup with 150 extra pounds strapped to my waist seems like a good starting point. I've done 3 with 100 lbs...and that was kinda hard...really kinda hard. Adding another 20% and expecting the same outcome would be crazy. KARAZY!

Also, I'm not saying 1 is my only goal here. Its the beginning goal. Once I crush that single pullup I will keep going. There is no limit to my pullup domination. No limit crushingness.

In case you can't tell, I'm psyching myself up here. RAWRAWRAWRAWRA.

I can do 15 pullups at bodyweight and only 5 with a 45 strapped on. Adding more weight is completely out of the question for me probably forever. I'm suprised you can get 3 pullups with 100 Ibs hangin off ya.

A few years of climbing and some natural monkey skillz prepped me for it. Looking back now, I probably should've been a gymnast.

I can do pullups rather well. Pullups, Chinups, and now I can add weight to my towel pullups.

I think Ive strapped 2 plates to me before and did 4 pullups, full rom. Pretty hard. 4 sets of 4 reps, if I recall correctly.

Of course I used straps, so some people may not think it counts.

piano, I gotta ask, what the fuck is in your avatar?

thats bad ass goal! maybe you could be the next crazy strong man. i cant remember his name or find the link to it.. but there was a guy in the 50's? who could dip over 400lbs at a weight of only 198. maybe you will be that crazy guy that did a pull up with however much weight you end up being able to do before you die. :D

I think, genetically, I have stronger muscles for my size than the average person. However, I don't have very strong bones. I'm almost certain this will inhibit my ability to really crush poundage at such a small body weight. I've noticed, occasionally, pains in my Ulna and Radius bones similar to the stress fracture pains in my legs from running. While nowhere near as severe a pain, it still concerns me. That pain shouldn't exist, but it does, and I keep myself from really pushing limits because of it. I don't want my arm snapping when lifting...that would kinda suck a lot.

Squirrel jammed in a bike wheel/gears.

Now that I have contributed all I care to in this thread...good luck.

While I commend you on that, straps are for pussies!!!! ;p I know it's a lot of weight and am honestly not giving you shit. I just wont be strapping in, since increased hand strength is a side goal of mine.

As for the picture, as fufu pointed out, it's a dumb little rodent caught in the disc break mechanism on a bike. Not my photo, but I've come close to similar situations. Stupid fuckers just kamakaze onto the trails from the confines of their happy forested homes. WTF.

I've done 3 with 100 lbs...
This is really impressive to me. Why not go for more reps at 100lb instead of boosting it to 150lb (or 120lb if you are increasing by 20%)?

I dunno ... just think it's cool to try and do a pullup with 2x my body weight. That's not to say I won't work on more reps with less added weight. I'm fairly certain I'll need to do that in order to get this 150lbs crushed.

Belt came today.

Crushing weights is about to commence. Wednesday, because today is not pullup day.

What will you do for training in pull up day specifically?

Good luck.

My current goal is a 1-arm pullup. I started doing pullups 5 weeks ago. My bests are now +80x4 and +100x1 at a bodyweight of 160. No dumb straps, of course.

I predict that when Pianomahnn ties 145lbs to his waist and starts doing ullups, the weight will actually tear his body into two pieces. Then we will refer to him as "Stumpy."

Probably.

As for an answer to FuFu's question, I'm going to do pullups on pullup day. Seriously, I know it sounds smart ass, but that's all I am going to do.

Volume - probably between 150 and 200 pullups at the end of the session.
Grip - all over the place
Intensity - I don't really understand this one.

Keep in mind that I do a lot of different pullup type exercises. I am not doing 150 pullups with added weight. Some will be assisted, others just bw, others weighted. Different width, grips, styles. Since I believe variety is key to total development, I keep it eclectic, mixing things up.

edit: Also, I'm an experimenter. While I enjoy coming here to read about different exercises, form, etc., I try to come up with things on my own to work muscles in different ways. It's almost guaranteed I'll change my program a lot based on progress and how things are feeling.

This sounds interesting to me. Those are some numbers. Let us know how it turns out.

that is a shitload of pullups champ. let us know how many you actually get. If you were doing weighted, at 5x5 or 8x3 of even 10x10 (which would be utterly massive) thats still only 24-100 reps.
