It was a good thing Peyton Manning left such a nice tip for his server at the Angus Barn because it was one of the last the server would ever receive at the Raleigh, N.C., steakhouse.

According to the Triangle Business Journal, a server at the restaurant was fired after posting a photograph of the generous tip Manning left on a $625 bill. The restaurant included its own 18 percent gratuity, bringing the tab to about $739, and Manning added another $200 on top -- roughly -a 50 percent tip. "Jon" was terminated by restaurant owner Van Eure for violating the restaurant's privacy policy.

Yeah, you probably shouldn't post a photograph that includes the last four digits of Peyton Manning's credit card number (we've blurred them, just to be safe). That's bad publicity for the restaurant. It surely can't afford for the Raleigh glitterati to think that all their checks will be posted on Twitter.
It comes as no shock that Manning's a good tipper. I'm sure he held the door for people when he walked in, called his waiter "sir" and pulled out the chairs for everyone at his table, all while donating money to charity and shaking hands with strangers.

No, the only thing that's surprising about this is that a restaurant with "Barn" in its name has such a pricey menu.

34 Notoriously Bad Celebrity Tippers

You’d think with all their money, celebrities would be good tippers. This isn’t always the case. Certain celebrities are notoriously bad tippers. Check it out:

1. Madonna - Doesn’t always leave a tip, when she does it’s a cheap one.

2. Kelly Presten – Notoriously bad tipper. Most of the time she doesn’t leave a tip at all.

3. Gwyneth Paltrow – Doesn’t leave a decent tip. It’s speculated she has trouble calculating the proper percentage.

4. Barbra Streisand – Doesn’t always tip. When she does it’s $10 for a bill of over $450. She’s very high maintenance and demanding and no one ever wants to wait on her.

5. Tobey Maguire – Doesn’t always leave a tip, and when he does it isn’t generous.

6. Bill Cosby – Once left a $3 tip on a $350 order. He probably thinks the waitstaff needs to stop taking from others and get a real job.

7. Ricki Lake – Once left a tip of $8.00 on a $142.44 bill. This after she let her young son run around the restaurant unattended – and he supposedly made a big mess.

8. Bobby Brown – Rude to wait staff, lets his kids run amuk and left a $10 gratuity on a $250 restaurant tab.

9. Sean Penn - He and three others had New Orleans waiters waiting on them hand and foot. The tip left on a $450 tab? Absolutely nothing. There are lots of instances of Sean Penn stiffing waitstaff. How many people do you think have spit in his food by now?

10. Kirsten Dunst – According to one server she’s whiny and smells bad. Left nothing behind after racking up a $223 bill.

11. Dan Marino – Wouldn’t talk to server directly, had to have a member of his entourage handle it. Tipped $10 on $210.

12. David Lee Roth – Is known to be demanding and send food back. Tips 10%.

13. Duane “Dog the Bounty Hunter” Chapman – He and his wife are considered to be very high maintenance. They expect the VIP treatment and only tip %5. At a TGI Fridays in Waikiki they paid $10 for a $250 tab.

14. Rupert Everett – Listed as one of the worst tippers ever.

15. David Byrne – The Talking Heads frontman is considered one of the worst tippers ever because he doesn’t leave anything, ever.

16. Molly Ringwald – Bar tab was the equivalent of twenty-five cents for each round of drinks her large entourage consumed.

17. Diddy – Left a $40 tip for his meal – a dinner for 15 people.

18. Richard Dreyfuss – Bad tipper and high maintenance “whiny” client.

19. Michael Moore – Once left less than $20 on a bill totally $452.52.

20. Jesse Jackson – Left $20 on a $228 tab.

21. John Kerry – Left $20 on a tab of over $700!

22. Britney Spears – Once tipped a valet by dropping change on the ground and telling him “there’s your tip”. Also paid a $26 tip on a $500 tab.

23. Tiger Woods – Doesn’t tip because he says he doesn’t carry cash.

24. Usher - Never tips and always tries to get someone else to pick up the bill.

25. Rachel Ray – Tipped $1 on a $10 tab. Probably didn’t want to go under her $40 a day allowance.

26. Victoria Beckham and Katie Holmes – Dined together in an upscale restaurant and didn’t leave a tip.

27. Tom Green – Once left $15 on a $175 tab.

28. Paul McCartney – Once left a restaurant too drunk to leave a tip.

29. Regis – Once left cruise staff a $60 tip for an entire week’s worth of personal service. His wife is said to be very high maintenance and the ship’s crew was happy when she left two days early.

30. Marty Stuart – Leaves 7% – his wife is very demanding.

31. Don Henley – Very demanding, keeps staff members on their toes, tips 15%.

32. D’Angelo – Once left $7.00 on a $250 tab. The tab should have been over $500, mind you, but the r&b singer and his entourage nagged until they got a discount .

33. Mariah Carey – Once had her people call ahead to a restaurant to let them know she was arriving with a very large party. The restaurant stayed open late, and Mariah and crew were very diva-ish with their demands. Despite keeping staffers jumping and a high tab, no one left a tip.

34. Marion Jones – Left $3 on a $45 tab.

I expect the bad tipping from the handful of liberals on that list, but the horrible tipping by former athletes is ridiculous. I've heard before that Dan Marino has a piss poor attitude.

I think it's cool of Manning to tip a working stiff. Bettern than "stiffing" the stiff. So, what Peyton did was very cool.

But he also has tens of millions so....you know....I would do the same. Am I cool? I dunno.

I noticed he paid with a MasterCard. Wonder what the limit on that thing is? I would've thought he'd be using an AmEx or something fancy.

I am broke as fuck and I usually tip 20%. Worked in restaurants from 14 until I was 20. Maybe that is why I hate humanity so much. Rich people are the worst tippers and their kids nearly always misbehave. Black people are loud, make huge messes and rarely tip at all. It is funny how this is the only thing rich people and black people have in common. Middle class white people usually tip well.

What's the hourly rate of wait staff in the US?

It's about $16/hr std rate in Aus. That's why tipping is optional, like for good service only.

Well most only get 2-8 an hour depending on volume of work they do.While its not a rule to tip its jus bad ass manners. Of course this is not high end restaurants, but jus ur average establishments.

At a restaurant like Cracker Barrel or Red Lobster, wait staff typically make 2.15-3.80/hour. (plus tips) Most higher end restaurants and fine dining automatically include an 18% gratuity.

I believe everything is much, more expensive in AUD, correct? Hence the 16.00/hour for wages. Most people with AA degrees make that in the United States. HA!!

Payton Manning is always cool, and down to earth. He is so rich he could not spend or give away all his money if he tried. Trust me, he tries. He gives so very much of money AND his time to charities that its amazing. You would expect such a famous athlete to do some time with charities for publicity by he doesn't do this kind of stuff in front of a camera very often. He does it from his heart in private as it were. Not in the "public eye".

He attends his church regularly without cameras there as well. When you see the man wallking somewhere you can talk to him and he stops and takes time to talk with you very graciously. He is not the type of man that thinks he is better than you or you are not worthy to talk with him, as so many famous people are.

The man is a class act that many children all over can look up to. Even us adults as well :)

Well said KelJU.....sad but true.

Depends on each person's individual limit. I'd guess most celebrities have credit limits of more than $25,000, easily (most Americans earning a decent income can get up to this level quite easy after a few years).

If you have a no-limit credit card like a Black American Express, the max transaction is $99,999, so anything over that amount has to be split up into multiple transactions.

Wow, you're a saint. If you're not making an amazing income, 15% is perfectly reasonable. I try to tip 20, but that's because I usually can.

You're an upstanding guy.

There are a lot of perks for owning that card. My wife was watching a desperate housewives episode (I swear it was her) and one of the chicks had an entire store shut down by AMEX just for her. The benefits of being one of their black card holders, I guess.

Hmm... that's usually on the more difficult side. The reps will work very hard to book these "impossible" favors, and it's not unheard of for them to get you a private hour in a store or reservations next week for somewhere that's been booked solid for a month.

$2,500 a year is steep for a card, but the travel benefits are great - at pretty much any major airport, there will be a lounge you can get into for free to shower/relax, you get free upgrades at some very nice hotels, and gold membership to a couple rental car companies. They do milk you seriously for it - you have to spend at least $250k a year to keep the card on top of the yearly fee (and one-time joining fee).

But hey, everyone wants the black card :D

My gf hates waiting on Japanese, Australians and people from the southern states especially black folk and fat white people who always ask for Mr. Pibb(I had to tell her it's a soda like Dr. Pepper)...We get all kinds in Hawaii and those are usually the worst tippers...

She had James Caan in and he tipped generously...
