How much protein per meal can the body digest and use? I was told that it was 35g and anything over that would just go to waste.

That is a myth. Your body can absorb more. How much? Depends on million factors.
Look at it this way, 75 year old granny can absorb same amount as jay cutler? Is ridiculous.
Why are u bothering about it anyway? If u need like 200g of protein, that is 33g of protein in 6 meals. That's it. U r not going to eat 100g protein twice daily, aren't u?![]()

You might want to do some math and re-examine your biology books related to protein absorption in the intestine. There is indeed a limit to how much protein you can absorb. And believe it or not, Jay can probably only absorb about 50% more than the granny. On a good day.
More than about 250 grams a day is a waste. But don't trust my word, do a Google search and some simple math. Whey is a fast absorbing protein, so hit Google to see how fast whey is absorbed, in grams per hour. There are 24 hours in a day. Do the math.
As for the 35 grams per meal, I explained the rationale in this post: http://www.ironmagazineforums.com/diet-nutrition/132598-protein-absorption-meal-frequency-question.html#post2343567
In a nutshell, only the first half of your intestine really absorbs protein, and depending on how fast your stomach empties, your meal might not spend enough time in that part of your intestine for all the protein to be absorbed.
Also, more than about a gram per pound of body mass (assuming you're not fat) is a waste. Think about it. If all that protein went to building muscle, and muscle is about 25% protein, then 120 grams of protein would equal a pound of muscle. And I think you'll agree that no one gains a pound of muscle a day.
thanks man this helps alot!!!Dude you r forgeting hormones...
This is how much u can gain daily:
Multiply your weight in pounds by 1.818 (=... grams). That is your potential daily mass gain. Yeah.
U just need to control your hormones - suppres cortisol, increase anabolism and increase metabolism.
One more thing, 1g per 1lb is maybe for natural guy with average genetics. What about natural freak mesomorph? What about freak mesomorph on test, tren, gh, slin, igf-1?
My 2 cents.
Um no, I'm not. Hormones won't help you absorb protein from your intestine.Dude you r forgeting hormones...
I think your reading comprehension skills need improvement. The only references to 1.818 I found aren't talking about gains. It's how many grams of protein per pound of lean body mass others are recommending. This is how much u can gain daily:

Again, hormones don't get protein from your intestine into your bloodstream.U just need to control your hormones - suppres cortisol, increase anabolism and increase metabolism.
And again, hormones don't matter. The *ONLY* thing that affects intestinal protein absorption is intestinal length, which is directly related to a person's height. One more thing, 1g per 1lb is maybe for natural guy with average genetics.
