Pullups / pulldowns

Ok i just installed a bar dip and pull up station. Because of my weight, using a wide grip with overhand grip, I can only pull myself once about eye heigths to the bar.
Here is my ? which do you feel would be better doing cable pulldowns with as much weight as i can do, or negitive pull ups

You might want to do pull downs as many as you can, then negatives, since youll still have negative strength after you finish your pulldowns.
 
shame m8 if u installed a bar u could of pulled me a large 1
 
interms of stimulating hypertrophy the negative (eccentric) portion of a lift induces greater amounts of microtrauma to skeletal muscle then does the conccentric portion of the lift.

so focus on the pulldowns with maximum weights and do negatives on pull-ups....

I concur. This is how I started out.
I did lots of negatives with weight too,
My daughter hanging on me.
