First of all, which is worse on a cut, sugars or fats (like from cheese, butter, red meat)? And how do you tell a "good" fat from a bad one?

Another side question. Is there any scale or something that is generally accepted when it comes to fat loss? Like i know they say you can put on up to a pound of muscle a week with the perfect conditions, is there a fat loss thing like that? I just want to make sure im not losing lbm on this cut, or at least not too much.

Oh and also are there any "good" sugars? Or when you check the label and see sugars should you automatically try to avoid that food on a cut?

Sugar is evil bulk or cut...but especially on a cut!

One pound of muscle per week? That would be nice now wouldn't it LOL!

When cutting, 1% of your BW per week is safe.

All sugars are bad. You just need to know what type of fat your food has. i.e. flax=w3 fa(mostly), safflower oil=w6 fa(mostly), heavy cream=sfa etc.

You can lose about 1-2 lbs per week, but it can vary from person to person.

BF calipers+Weekly weigh-ins+Nutrition journal+common sense=complete knowledge over whether or not you're losing LBM/fat.

Well i have calipers but they are plastic and i have nobody to take measurements of me. I tried once but i dont know how much skin to pinch, like do i reach my fingers out as far possible and try to pull in the most skin for the fold? And also when im not flexed, i usually grab muscle along with fat so that makes it even more difficult to test myself.

Yan, You forgot THE MIRROR!

Detram, get your BF checked by a pro with pro calipers. This costs like 10 dollars and is well worth it. I go about every 8 weeks.

Also, if there's one sugar you definately want to avoid on a cut it's large amounts of fructose, lactose and sucrose! I think it's OK to carb up on other sugars (malto, dex) due to their pro-muscle metabolic pathway. Large amounts of fructose/sucrose/lactose lead to easier and more likely spillage, in my experience.

I would say sugar would be worse, but I'm not a diet expert. Remember eating fat is part of what many people use to trigger the body into burnint fat for energy.

Where do you go to get your bf tested by a pro?

And thank you all very much for the replies. :)

Call the local University or College, you could also go to a fitness center if there's a reputable one nearby. Basically get it done by someone else (it's impossible to do a good reading yourself)! Preferrably someone with lots of experience taking site readings.

When you say "sugars"...does that include sugars from fruit such as bananas?

Muscle Gelz Transdermals
IronMag Labs Prohormones
Any sugars, and any carbs that are absorbed quickly.

all sugars are not bad, dextrose and maltodextrin can be a bbers best friend when used correctly.

the processed form of sucrose is the worst substance that a person can ingest. over consumption of milk is also another diet breaker. when lactose is broken down by the lactase enzyme the remaining sugars are glucose and galactose. Galactose is non insulogenic (ie. does not initiate a primary insulin response and hence reduces the likelihood of unwanted hypoglycemia). It is also rapidly absorbed by sodium co-transport and integrates well into energy metabolism. Glucose on the other hand has a high glycemic index and will elicit a large insulin surge, resulting in possible hypoglycemia.

I called the local university and set up an appointment to get tested. However, its not a caliper reading, the lady said that its like eletrical impulses or something that they hook up 2 electrodes to your right hand and 2 to your right foot to measure your bf%. Is this accurate enough to be worth doing? I hadn't heard of this before, just water testing and calipers.

Works for some, not others. That is why calipers are generally recommended. I think it only gets innacurate for ultra lean and obese people, for most people within a semi normal range it should be good to go.

Some....On a cut, the best fruit to have is apples, peaches, all berries & grapefruit...they have the least sugar and the most fibre...stay away from bananas on a cut.
