Putin has vested interest in Syria. Putin has protected the Syrian government and will continue to do so. He can't do it through military action, so he will do it by pretending to be the heroic peace maker. Though his action, which was quit effective by the way, he made us look like tools, made our president look like a douche, and made Russia look like they are becoming the good guys.

You got to admit you almost feel like both sides want to act like they want power, but as soon as they get it realize they don't have a damn clue what to do with it. Leading is not their forte. Syria is ally's with Russia, so yes when Russia asks them to do something they will be more responsive. Also Russia is in no way ready to be involved in a world war, they want to look tough but avoid being dragged into a war with us at all costs.
