Should the death penalty be re-introduced??

What do you think?

At the moment the terms dished out for serious crime, like murder, is a joke. There is no real deterrent hence it seems potential killers, especially the young, take the decision to kill lightly.

Some here will argue that the death penalty may be wrongly issued to an innocent, but with today???s technology etc. this will be very unlikely.

the data shows that harsh penalties such as the death sentence actually have the opposite effect as the desired one in the few places that still use it. in terms of the US we have a very unhealthy society in general, there lots of other places with more liberal governments, televised media outlets, etc. with far less violent crimes, drug use, etc.

with all of the recent death row convictions that have been overturned due to DNA evidence, etc. we really need to look at the records. the thought of a truly innocent person being put to death is sickening to me.

That's a result of the lawyers no longer being concerned with the truth.

IMHO... If you are found guilty you should be taken out an executed right away or atleast withing 30 days. None of this appeals crap, the people outsite protesting should be shot too. Sorry I just hate paying to keep people there until they die of old age. If they want to get rid of the death penalty than do it and make it life in prison. but someone needs to make up there mind.

I don't understand what you mean since they have death penalties in most states. But if you mean all states yes they should. That is is you are proven guilty without a dought.

Most people who commit such a crime to warrant the death penalty don't value their life, therefore, you are only giving them what they want through execution.

I have always felt like someone who commits a serious crime should pay for it through a lifetime of boredom and seclusion. They shouldn't be given the priveledge of avoiding that through the cowardly way out.

Agree.

Jail should be a hell on earth.
Take the Russians for example.
Those boys know how to make your life hell.
Some prisoners decapitate themselves to avoid the guards.

There was a video on the YNC
Prison guards made the inmates strip down in the pissing rain and beat the shit out of them.

You could here bones break it was that bad.

If you knew thats where you where going you would think twice about pulling the trigger.

yes, premeditated or not, you take my neighbors life, you should have yours taken.

I also believe that if you're caught stealing someone else's property, you should have your hand cut off.

It should be stopped. We end up losing heros like Tookie Williams and Mumia Abu Jamal. It has also been proven that the victim of the execution can feel some pain when the needle is inserted. Therefore it is cruel and unusual in itself. Additionally, ALL human life outside of the womb is precious. The life of Ted Bundi was just as precious and the loss just as tragic as all 3 dozen women he dispatched.

i don't believe that capitol punishment is a deterrent. I also don't care that it isn't a deterrent. purpose of capitol punishment is to remove those individuals from society who can't ever come back. we need to expand its use, not limit it. rapists and child molesters are way worse to society in my opinion than murderers. I've not seen anything that shows an innocent man has been wrongly put to death since the death penalty was re-instituted by the supreme court.

ban the death penalty and start using these inmates for hard labor...

what kind of society continues behaviors known and/or proven to be counterproductive? that's pretty much the opposite of intelligence. and the tax payer cost for appeals, etc. and how many people on death row actually get put to death? if it's a waste of time and money we would continue this practice, why?

I don't consider it counterproductive. just because it doesn't deter a murderer? (of course it doesn't. the large majority of murders are crimes of passion done in the moment. not serial killer stuff.) I've already given my reasons for why I support it.
how many on death row actually get put to death? I'm going to say the majority. how many die before execution, or get sentences reduced? not very many that i've heard of. its not a waste of time and money. a waste of time and money is keeping these worthless fuckers alive until they rot away in their cells.

I agree that it is a waste of time and taxpayer's $ to keep them around for 20 years and allowing them to appeal indefinitely. There should be a limit to the number of appeals, or at least a deadline. If we could go back to public executions, it might be more of a deterrance.

personally I would like to see the following executed: every rapist, child molester, kidnapper, physical abuser of the old and young and any piece of shit loser that commits a home invasion.

however it won't solve the underlying problem as to why we have such a high rate of violent crime in the US. ultimately a lot of the problems in the US are the result as to how this country came to be, as the saying goes "violence begets violence".

Give them a daily dose of methamphetamine and have them put shit together on an assembly line....give them a meal a day and keep them working until they drop. Let them stew in their cage for a few days to recover and start over again, we'll get about 5 good years out f them and get rid of them at the same time.....

so which nation in the history of the world has been born without violence? where is this utopia that the US should emulate so our overly violent land can be a land of peace, love, prosperity, puppy dogs, and unicorns chasing chocolate covered cherries?

I think with this link in your profile: Free DVD Burning Software and programs. 24 Hour Customer Support. and the fact that you have made similar threads on multiple forums means that you are a spammer. And you were called out in other forums as being a spammer from the Philippines.

That's what I think. :)

The problem is they aren't paying for it. You and I foot the bill to keep them alive. Killing them is cheaper. Plus prisons are overcrowded. We gotta make room for all the future lawbreakers.

Criminals know the justice system is too easy on them. We coddle them while they're in jail, then let them out early so they can go commit more crimes again. Recidivism is very high, something like 85%. So majority of them aren't rehabilitated. Spare the future victims, cut costs, show criminals we are tough on crime. Go all old testament on those bastards!

^ what he said, and all illegal imigrants should be deported, but if they performed any of the above they should be executed and not given the right to just be deported.

I think they still do in some states. I think Arkansas still has chain gangs.

thus their high unemployment rate?

llolol!

Maybe, but it's a lot higher in other states that don't have chain gangs. In the state I live in it's higher, and we don't have chain gangs. I think they do stuff that wouldn't otherwise get done anyway like picking up trash off the highway, and clearing weeds.
