i quit smoking about 4 months ago, it was a stupid habit that i picked up in high school and was impossible to drop.

the only tip i can give people that are trying to quit is...NEVER ever ever buy a pack. if the craving is too much and you just can't hold off and need a cigarette, bum one or buy one for .50 cents from someone smoke it and most importantly KEEP ON WITH THE QUITTING. i know when i tried quitting a couple of times before i would go a couple of hours/days whatever then give in, smoke a cigarette and go back to smoking a pack a day. this last time i said no matter i'm gonna quit and for the first couple of days i actually gave in and bummed a cigarette and smoked maybe half then threw it away and continued on with the quitting. so for the first couple of days i had maybe a cigarette or two but after about 3 days i had it all under control because i didn't give up on it. i still smoke a cigarette every now and again, when i'm stressed or drunk or something but i make sure that no matter what i never go back to smoking like a friggin chimney.

1. go cold turkey, none of this cut down bs, been there, it doesn't work, like Nike says "just do it"
2. start stopping in the morning, if you start the day with a smoke, don't quit that day.
3. Don't wait for a "good" time in your life, there's NEVER a good time for quitting, you just gotta bite the bullet, besides why wait for everything in your life to be perfect ? then fuk it up by going through withdrawl? do it now and get it out of the way.
4. Just like the alky's take it one day at a time, don't worry about how you'll make for a week, a month, a year, just worry about making it through that DAY, then before you know it the days build up.
5. It ain't gonna get easier the longer you wait.
6. One you quit don't ever fuk it up by saying "well, I'll just get a pack for tonight's ...whatever.

All really, really good advice! :clapping:

I did all of the above before I finally got the balls to say 'enough', no more cutting down, no more waiting until Monday, no more 'oh, I'll just smoke on New Year's'... which I did one year and was still smoking the following August!
It really is a case of just doing it, I didn't use any aids or supps I just decided that it was time.

I was wondering when you guys would get pissed about my "emotionally weak" post. I'm saying that you need to be emotionally strong to quit.
no not pissed at all, its true....takes A LOT of will power, and my will for that anyway is pretty weak..not ashamed to admit it:shrug:

I am glad for the people that have quit. I have not had a smoke for 29 days now and I still crave one all the time. I am starting to think the cravings will never go away.

They will. Keep fighting it.
I knew a guy that sucked on cinnamon tooth pics every time he wanted a cig

Cravings suck. I was eating sugarless candy to get buy. I know that is bad but I guess smoking is worse.

Thanks guys for the advice, as of now i will no longer bring smokes to work with me, or smoke in the car. I will just smoke at night on the computer for a few weeks, then completly cut it out. I know some people can drop it at once but i have alot of problems at home and it is hard but i will stop, i will make it my new goal(other then getting big and ripped hehe) and will defintily try to stop, thanks again.
Have you ever tried a tapering method? Meaning, start with a whole pack, smoke 4, 4, 4, 3, 3, 2, 1 each day of the week and on the last day quit! or at least con't this cycle and see how you feel at the end, most people don't want to smoke anymore if YOU are really serious about quitting!

thanks for the responses guys, well i am still smoking, but have cut down alot. i probably smoke about 10 ciggs a day now, and am gonna jus keep cutting down till like 5 day, then i will try the patch, thanks again for the help and wish me luck :)

good luck! don't give in. this too shall pass

I quit after 19 years.

Used Zyban and a shit load of lemon drops.

It was the hardest damn thing I have ever done!!

Now that I'm 7 years smoke free, I feel better than I ever did.

You really have to want to quit to make it work. For me, it was having my daughter and reading a bunch of stuff from other peoples daughters who's Dads had died from lung cancer. I decided I wanted to be around to watch out for her.

The first couple months is hell and even after a year or so you still get cravings. It is not easy but it will only make you better.

Good luck!

Hi guys, well today i was in work and had a cigarette, after i went back in i was like having trouble breathing, and i got really upset with myself. I decided right then and there that i was gonna quit. I know alot of people quit cold turkey, but i needed help, so i went out and bought the nicotine patch. Well so far i have not had one craving since i have the patch on and i feel like this time will be it for smoking for me. Well I'm gonna go hit the weights for a little while, and i will post my progress, again wish me luck guys :thumb:

It does look good women smoking with sunglasses on the streets of Paris.

Yeah, but the armpit hair is a real turnoff.

That doesn´t happen anymore. Although I never been to France, people from there told me this stuff is not true nowadays.
