I just started at a new gym and they have a t bar row machine. My question is should my chest be above or right on the pad? If itatters I'm 6 ft tall

I'd say right on the pad is about right. It would seem like putting your chest above it would be a good way to cause an injury. Great exercise.

Thanks I've never done them in the machine just with a bar in the corner bit I thought I'd try something new.

T-bar raw is a great exercise. You will probably like it on the machine, however, it becomes little bit more as an isolation exercise because you will not be required to use your core as a stabilizer.

That might be a good thing as I've injured my lower back a few times.

So true, this exercise puts a lot of pressure on one's spine. I did it for a while and then realized that I might hurt my back so I switched it to bb bent over raws, another great exercise and is way smother on your lower back.

What are bb bent over rows? I'm always interested in moves that will save my back.

YouTube barbel bent over raw and you will se a ton of videos about it, this exercise is one of the best compound movement for overall back development. FYI, with these kind of exercises you have to use strict form, make sure you get the form right and start with light wight to do so.

Ahh barbell gotcha lol! That's one of my staples. I generally do them on the smith machine if I'm going heavy

one arm DB rows are great one of my favourite movements along with low pully rows two great exercises. built myself a t bar for my own gym years ago, made it with inter changable grips (parallel,45,and reversble grips) get into one arm DB rows d-latsky, they are the bizz
