When my mp3 player's batteries die, I have to work out with out it. However, my workout suffers so badly cuz of the fucking music my gym plays.

"Some like it hot...the heat is on" was playing today. Luckily, I had a new set of batteries, but some days the music is so bad, that I cannot concentrate on my workouts cuz the music tears my ears apart. :wits: Its been so bad sometimes, that I leave the gym.

Southern Rock is not what I want to hear when I work out.

I don't even own an ipod to listen to my own music. When I'm in the gym I'm in the zone, I couldn't tell you if music was playing or not.

I have to take my Ipod.... at 5 in the morning, you're listening to mellow music at the gym,,, it just doesn't work..

I agree with AKIRA!
Music plays a great role in keeping my self esteem at a "pumpin' iron" level.. Workin out with my iPod is like 5x better. Gym music is always at a volume you can ignore, so it's not a problem for me..

If it's not so easy to walk up to the front desk and ask them to "change the country music" they're playing. Just give them a call and explain to them how music affect your workout and that you prefer more suitable music. ;)

exactly...music sets the mood.
something that had a driving beat works. I prefer rock to rap...but whatver works for you.
I remember one night way back...the local rock station was on...and Metallica was playing...in the middle of the song...the overweight front desk girl switch the station to a different station...the kind hat you can listen to at work.
I WAS in a good 'zone'....and when I and the other 10 people in there heard the station change...I yelled out...WTF is this S@#T?!?!?
She put it back.
But yeah...music helps to set the tone...

The place I have has XM radio and if anyone is familiar with the radio stations, they have it set on Big Tracks, I think. Lots of music that you dont want to listen to while working out. Hotel California maybe a good song, but I dont want to hear it while I am benching.

My gym plays polka on occasion. Amy Grant, Cher, Shakira, Bob Dylan, etc.

Hahahahaaa!! :roflmao: :clapping:

What could she do if :paddle: showed up !! :thumb:

I just got this great marketing/luxury idea.. A gym should have a computer with a continuously changing playlist depending on people's requests..
You walk in, scan your tag, your favorite music list is automatically in queue to be played.. yes?no?

Muscle Gelz Transdermals
IronMag Labs Prohormones
That would be awesome!!!!! Until the next person walked in and changed it to some country shit... I'd have to load enough songs in to get me through an hour haha

You mean a good jolt of Barry Manilow at 5 am doesn't perk you up? :D

Our gym owner has XM so I thought this would be great, but he skips all over. Sometimes its country, other times 80s Tom Petty. Nothing ever heavy or upbeat though. Thank god for the I-pod.

I like the ipod. It tell people that you don't want to be bothered plus you can listen to whatever you want without bothering anyone else.

Training at 5am? now that's dedication - you should sit down and have 5 minutes of just being proud of yourself! :clapping:

That's why some ppl just prefer to win a world title and buy a gym so they have loooads of members and they get to make them all listen to Evanescence emo crap for hrrrs.. try strippping to country and making the most money in the club. see that's entertainment:dont: ..so.. i hear.

Blooming tianshi lotus.

Lawl, my gym plays pop hits from the 80s and 90s. I won't lift if I don't have my Zune. I cann't deadlift to "I'm your Venus I'm your fire" or whatever that fucking song is called.

My Zune has 5 different workout playlist, so I never get bored with it. I also keep some songs in reserve for tough lifts. I have one playlist called heavy leg day, and that shit is off the chain.

The problem with all of this is I am way too dependent on my MP3 player.

Exactly....plus I notice people don't try and talk to me because they realize I can't hear them. The gym has a different look when all you hear if your own inner grunts mixed over your personal soundtrack.

See, I have XM radio myself, but some channels just arent good for working out.

The thing that sells XM radios is also its downfall. Sure, theres a shitload of music, commercial free, but that means theres gonna be all kinds of music, even tons of music you DONT LIKE.

My gym used to play BPM, which is a dance station and I think thats just fine. Its fast, upbeat, and usually fresh to everyone.

I think that's what my gym plays. I rarely even hear the music playing, but I'll hear a DJ every once in a while say "BPM."

Usually I am in some sort of zone, but sometimes I am not...and its those times that I need some music that helps. Otherwise, I am happy in the gym 50% of the time.

I also have noticed that I will play music on my mp3 player, get all into it, then 2 exercises later I forget its even on. So, maybe the music creates that "zone."

I need music on cardio as well, but now that Ive been giving HIIT a try, I dont need it as much since I am constantly looking at the timer.

Can't help it - I'm an early riser,,, always have been... Even when we go to Vegas and we're out until 4-5 in the morning - I automatically wake up at 8:00..... Now that's madness !
