What new car should I buy?

I need a mid-sized sedan. Something that is good on gas because I drive 80 miles a day to work. It also has to be a good size since I have two small children. I am coming from a small turbo charged sedan. I would like to have something with some power too. I have looked at the subaru legacys, buick regals, and the hyundai sonata turbo. I like the hyundai sonata the best. I think it's the best value for your buck. 274hp on 4 cylinders. It has every option there is. I'm looking to spend 30k out the door.

Do you want the car absolutely new or are you considering something like a two year old? If you're ok with slightly used, you will have a lot more options.

I would consider something slightly used. I drove the Lexus ES350 that had 25k miles on it. I liked it but didn't absolutely love it. For the same price I can get a brand new loaded sonata. With a monster warranty. That is another deal breaker. I need to have at least a 3 year warranty. I don't have time to wrench on cars anymore. I need to just drop it off at the dealer and get a loaner when I get repairs done.
 
You're on point with the turbo Sonata. Hyundai is killing Toyota and Honda in sales because they have sharp looking cars with class leading fuel economy and an outstanding warranty. Not to mention they are priced right.

I considered and test drove the turbo Sonata and was very impressed between the power and all the toys including NAV that you can get for well under $30K. I ended up getting a new Infiniti G37S sedan, but that's a totally different class of car with a totally different price point.

I'm a "Truck" guy myself but my wife LOVES her Acura.

The VW Jetta has received tons of praise over the past few years plus, it seems to retain it's value better than most.
 
Honda accord, or ford fushion. I would stay away from hyundai, they do not have a good track record.

I drove a 2011 Maxima. I liked it. It felt big though. Very big engine. Love the look of it. 2 intakes. I don't think the gas mileage is there though being that it's a V6.

My wife wants me to look at Volkswagen. I am just not a fan of them. I feel that they are cheap cars. couple of my friends have them. Just felt hollow inside.

I was weary of Hyundai because of the rumors about their quality and what not. My mind has changed completely though after driving a few of them and doing a ton of research on them. They back up their work with a 5 + year warranty. Nissan, Lexus, subaru are all 3 year warranties. That tells me that Hyundai is confident about their product.

A very good friend just bought the new sonata and he thinks it's great. Liked it for all the same reasons as you have above $$$, mpg, size, style, warranty, and etc. With your case in the warranty department you drive 20k miles a year just to and from work which means a 36k mile warranty with Honda, Toyota, Nissan and so on you out of the warranty due to mileage in 18 month. Hyundai will cover you for 5 years on mileage.
 
I like the diesel jettas. But that's me. I have to have a truck though.

The new hyundai's are awesome and the quality is not an issue with a 10 year warranty unless you never get to drive it which I doubt is the case. My buddy loves his TDI Jetta but unless you are not a big guy, it is small so you would need to get a Passat to make it work for a family. It is too bad the diesel options are offered in more cars since you have a long drive, it would save you lots of money. He got a LOADED TDI Jetta for under $25K but I think the Hyundai is a better option for sure.

That they are, but when it comes time to need that warranty they are just as bad as the rest. A buddy of mine bought his wife a 09 Santa Fe, they drove it around for about 20k miles, and he had just tons of little issues with it. They finally had enough of it, and bought a mazda tribute. They love it, and have had zero issues with it. They have about 10k miles on it already. I also know a few people with genesis that love them, its a up in the air thing. For me given what I have heard in the past, I would stay away myself. We are going to be in the market for the wife a bigger suv here at the first of the year. We have a 02 Tribute, we love it, but it can be small at times. We are going to upgrade to a new expedition.

I like them a lot. They are like 33K loaded though. 30K is stretching it for me. I hate paying this much money for a depreciating asset. My car is just ready to kick the bucket and I want to get something new since I drive so much.

Good point. Think I may stick with the Hyundai.
 
Get a used car bro. There is no need in losing that much money. If you want something good just get an accord or something.

I used to hear a lot of good things about those cars (sonata) from owners when I used to do residential work years ago. I would look into some late model used hybrids. one of my friends has a Altima hybrid and that thing gets sick gas mileage.

Then I lose all the power though. Apparently after 8 or 9 years you have to replace the battery in the hybrid. That can be pricey. Around 3,000$. So a big chunk of that money you just saved in gas goes to a new battery. Not sure it's worth it. I will pay for more hp:)

When hybrids get some real batteries in them besides those in my laptop, then they will become attractive. Right now they are just really heavy cars with some weak electric motors that don't get any better has mileage than a diesel. You want good mileage, get a diesel and drive the wheels off it.

Id stay away from a Vw for reliability reasons. I've owned 6 and they sure are fun to drive but they are big pieces of shit.

If I want something with low miles then I'm going to pay for it. Plus I want navigation, turbo and leather seats. Fully loaded. I'm justifying paying all this since I have only owned 2 cars in my life and I'm 29. I bought my toyota tercel when I was 15. Then bought my Mazdaspeed Protege when I turned 20. Now I need something bigger and newer.
