Hey. im 17 and i weigh about 140lbs ripppped. What should my bench press be at. I know its a dumb question, but i just wondered what it should be at. Im not power trianing, just body building. My photo is my avatar.

Thanx

Hey

I did, My max today was 160lbs, and i weigh about 139-140

Is that bad, or is that ok??????

Hey

nah, i dont bench a whole lot. It use to be just DBells. Iv been training for about 2 years. I never really did barebell, it was mostly dumbbell

if you don't bb bench most likely it will not increase. the weights from db's do not carry over...it is a totally different exercise.

there are also different techniques for benching for power or hypertrophy.

I have to disagree. My bench finally became respectable when I quit flat benching and started using DB's for chest work. I got to the point I was using 125's. Take that back to the flat bench and POW!
The gym I train at now only has 100's so I made my main chest exercises inclines and dips. Bench has never been better, and I only do it every few months just to check a max for the ego trip!:D

This I totally agree with.

that is good that you were able to make some gains...

but if one is a very efficient bencher (bench ratio of 2 +) dumbbells are ineffective for true benching PL style. believe me I bench 550+ raw, benching is my forte.

Yeah, you look huge for 140....how tall are you 4'6"??? And if you are that big, yeah, you should be benching at least twice your bodyweight.

Oh yeah, Increase in dumbbells OF COURSE carries over. The increase may not translate on a pound for pound ratio, but OBVIOUSLY it carried over.

4'6? LMAO. He's kinnda yellow-ishhh, maybe he's Chinese? j/k ken. I see where you're going with this peak, the shorter length of hand the bigger muscle. Conclusion: (yes! im jumping to conclusions) this guy is very short!!! Credit goes to twin peak ;).

HAHA

HHAH no im not asian. Just very bad tan. HAHA

Im about 5,6 or 5,7 not too sure.

Thats taken a while back. I went on a bulking phase and gained a shit load of mass, and im right in the middle of my cutting phase right now.

Umm, if that is you bulked, what do you look like cut, a damn skeleton?

Uhhh no

What are you talking about. Thats me RIPPED. at the end of my cutting.

I feel like we are going in circles, you need to be more clear in your posts.

twice your body weight is a HUGE accomplishment that only few people get. When I was 160 ~21-22% bodyfat (~5'6 I could rep 220 4 times slowly all the way down, no arc. I'm dieting now ~146 ~15% (still have a gut) I can do 200-210 the same way. But I'm not powerlifting or bodybuilding, Training for the hell of it, and for martial arts. If you're bodybuilding, it doesn't really matter how much you can bench, just that you are big and cut. But that's just semantics.

For my personal comparison, maybe 1 or 2 in my college (that I ever saw benching) beat that ratio, now that I'm lifting at gold's, the people the have better ratio's are the power lifters that come out with the chalk and elbow/wrist wraps and are doing 1 rep and then waiting for 10 minutes. Then again I went to an engineering school, and I live in new england, where you're in 5 layers of clothes for most of the year.

I have done strength testing on candidates for police college. To be considered "superior" in terms of their upper body strength, they have to be able to bench 1.5 times their body weight for a 10RM. They say the measure of good strength is being able to bench your body weight 10 times, so work up to that and move on from there.

ken i way 140 and benched 225 last week. I cycle off of PLing and BB like every 4 months. I have been training for about 2 years also.

in reply to your original post:

I'm 18 160lbs and i am benching a 1 rep max of about 150lbs so what your benching sounds respectable.

Hey, uh, Ken

you wanna share some of those uh bicep building secrets with the rest of us??? Maybe??? :D

well i have the same question because i weigh about 165 im 14 goin on 15 and my max is 170 but i thought it wuz low because a lot of people my age give or take 2 yrs are benching way more than me. im not super ripped but u can see a lil abz and my biceps are kindof pitiful. the way your chest looks u look like u can put up over 200.. ive been benching for 2 yrs off and on so mybe it adds up to one but i have the same question

Heh, I wasn't commenting on what is good or bad, just that with a physique like that you should be benching a LOT of weight (and double your bodyweight is not that out of reach folks).

ya bro your jsut as big as me all aroudn just about maybe you are bigger what are youre arm meseurments ken-rock im like 140-155 now going for mass then im goign to ut but i sort of do both at the same time caseu my job is very physically demanding
i bench what is about 140-160 bar may be about 20 punds so its about 140-160 and i can rep it 6-10 times probally but thats jsuta about my max..
i wil lget pics soon
