Iran was only backed by the USSR which is why the US gave Saddam money and arms for that venture. #1 attacking Kuwait as the Amir was a good friend of the Saudi's
#2 dumping the USD as it's primary reserve currency just as Iran has done.

Yes, we technically ended a cease-fire. But that doesn't change the fact that putting army and marines on the ground of another country counts as an invasion.
