I swim on my off days as a form of active rest.I don't go all out, I just swim laps at a moderate pace for 10-15 minutes then follow that with a five minute stretching routine for my shoulders, hips and hamstrings.
The benefits of swimming are that it hits almost all the muscles of the body, and if you use a fast pace, you can really get your heart beat elevated. It is very effective for people who have a high bodyweight as it is a non-impact activity and saves alot of wear and tear on the joints.I really don't see any disadvantages to swimming except for the fact that alot of people think a pool is a great place to take a piss. Now, swimming through a cloud of piss is definetly a disadvantage!

"I figure,f*ck it.While I'm at it why not just shoot my buddy, take his job, give it to his sworn enemy, hike up gas prices, bomb a village, club a baby seal, hit the hash pipe and join the national guard....I could be elected president."

There are other things you can do in a pool for a work out.

Hey,

I???m thinking of getting in to swimming.

Does anyone swim?

What are the benefits and non-benefits of swimming?

Thanks,
Foodio

I swim once in a while.

Benefits - cools you off.

Disadvantages - you get wet.

Complex problems have simple, easy to understand, wrong answers.

I used to swim, and it is a great low impact cardio exercise. It works your sholders very well. However i found that once i started hitting the weights more i could feel that my sholders were fatigued when working htem and when doing chest. so i quit swimming. Just a personal preference.

You get what you put in.

When I was in the military I swam every frekn day. It gave some good definition though.

It is very low impact on your joints. My greatgrandfather is 89 years old and he still swims almost everyday.

Everyday is a good day, when you are not six feet under.

I can swim but I don't really like it, to boring. I go to look at girls in skimpy suits mostly.

That`s the reason I go swimming.

Stick a sausage down your shorts next time you go swimming, you'll get a girl friend for sure.
