<~This asshole.

Tonight, I ended up chasing a shoplifter through the parking lot. When the parking lot descending for a drain to connect to another road, the shoplifter fell. Seeing as how I was behind him and noticed the decent, I jumped down, landed ON my feet, and dislocated my shoulder. Yeah, I dont know how it happened, but this bastard popped out of the socket.

So because it was worker's comp, I got the whole nine yards. X-ray, ambulance ride, IV, Vicodin prescription, and now a sling.

What I want to know is, what am I in for? I know there are some people that have this sort of thing happen to them often, but this is my first time. I have never had any sort of shoulder problems before.

I am not too concerned with the gym, I just want to know when Ill be able to not have pain. On a scale of 1-10, mine is 3-4, pretty low, but enough to mess with my sleep. I drove my damn motorcycle to work too! My baby is still there!!! :( How many days do I see being out of work?

Thanks for any advice and any stories of similar injuries.

I think the black hygiene that rub off on your girl is affecting you and made your joints weak.

I had something similar happen to me while skiing years ago. Coming down off a big jump the force from the landing seemed to go right to my shoulder because I was kind of slumped over and my arms were all loose.

But no dislocation occurred?

This shit really sucks. Almost as bad as a black....wait no, Ill refrain from making fun of myself here. I am in pain and I need answers about my shoulder, not my ethics.

from everything ive seen once it has happened once, it is easier for it to happen again

Well thats some shitty news considering that it was just gravity that aggravated this.

To think about the weight Ive pushed and pulled in my time, I never felt any pain, discomfort, or tightness. Perhaps it was bound to happen, but I really dont know what I am in for here.

I cant believe that your shoulder got busted from a jump. I would think someones ankle or hip/back would be more likely to get hurt. I wonder if P might drop by as he might have an explanation for this. It would be interesting to know.

Did you use your hand as a brace when you landed? F.O.O.S.H type injury?

Negative. It basically happened like fufu described. Picture walking down on a flight of stair with 4 steps to go. You jump to the ground and pop.

Weird, I know. I didnt have my hands on the shoplifter yet, so I know it wasnt from our 'altercation.'

It popped in and out. My left shoulder has always been like that. It is all jacked up.

I've had 13 dislocations total on both my shoulders, I have shitty shoulders and can't throw a baseball for a long period of time anymore

I recommend warming them up with bands before upperbody workouts then weights after the workout. I do various rotor cuff exercises between 10-25 reps. Also the basic R.I.C.E. etc

A shot of cortisone to the should should do it...lol

What did the MRI say? You need to make sure there isn't other damage. How is the labrum and the rotator cuff musculature?

Also, as stated, once you dislocate it one time, you open yourself up to more dislocations as the ligaments are now stretched out and very lax.

I just came back from the Orthopaedist(sp?). Apparently, there was no talk about having an MRI.

Since Thursday, my shoulder has felt pretty good. The doc told me to raise my shoulders as if doing a front raise and I had no pain. He said that was pretty good.

He spoke about how the labrum could be stretched or torn, but didnt really say I had that. He said it will be tender cuz its only been 4 days. "You dont have to wear the sling, but no overhead presses, abductions, or any sort of wide pressing movement."

I am going to see him again in 2 weeks.

A funny thing he told me was that it "wasnt likely" that a dislocation would occur at an increased rate beCAUSE of my age. He got real technical at this point about the labrum and how it works with the glenoid at various ages. He said that if the labrum is torn, it wouldnt heal and kids that do sports or swim have a tendency to have this happen again and again. I am going to ask him about this again, unless someone could give their opinion on the matter cuz I thought because I was older, I would be more susceptible to this vs. a growing child.

There wasnt any problems with my joint as far as the x-ray showed. He also told me how to pop it back in place should this occur again.

i would think it is telling that he feels necessary to teach you how to pop it back in place for when it happens again

if it pops out, you shouldn't put it back yourself! You need someone qualified to re-set it! teaching someone to do that on their own is not smart IMO.

for damn sure i learned how to do it about 6 years ago because my football coach showed me how to do it after i dislocate my shoulder in a game and its been nothing but a pain in the ass sence then..and a surgery later its still a pain in the ass

Good luck with the rehab man. Hopefully you can heal up and not have problems the rest of your life.
