I just gotta say that I now truly appreciate having an MP3 player. I have trained for years with music as it amplifies my workouts considerably. Well yesterday, I forgot my MP3 player, on leg day nonetheless. I was forced to listen to some pop rock/top 40 s**t. I used my anger at the gym staff for playing such crappy music to drive through my reps, but I am sure that my intensity suffered.

My question is, why in the world would a gym play music that makes you want to lie down and take a nap, or better yet, get a gun and shoot yourself?

I work out at a "wellness center" where around noon everyday the gym is packed with senior citizens so they play music that was popular when they were growing up. thats 50's music son! 50's!

Us hard core lifters like hard core music to drive us thru our heavy lifts, were considered a cult .The new generation "gym members" are candy ass men and women that go to the gym 4 times a month ,use 20lb dumbells do some cardio and tell people they belomg to a "gym" the top 40's music fits there attitude, lite and easy. They have no concept what it takes to get big, the heavy weight almost scarey when your under the bar our hard core music fits are attitude "hard core lifting" we are the minority at the gym now.Gym owners need members so they have to apease the majority ,they pay there membership do some cardio and want relaxing music,so put on your headphone and lift hardcore!

thats the crap that the little soccer moms and dads want to hear as they are the ones that those kinda "clubs" make the money off of in order to keep the "club" open for us :)

when you say "hardcore" are you only talking about rock music or...?

personally I respect somebody who doesn't need someone screaming in their ear to "go all out". not hating on mp3's I use one myself, gotta listen me to sm Beyonce when I weight lifts :)

most gyms that I have been in change the music throughout the day to go along with the crowd that is in there at the time. I just went two hours ago and the music was a good mix of metal and hard rock.

^ lol! my gym im at plays pop chart/dance shite 24/7 on a loop literlly the same songs on a loop for weeks on end! i couldnt handle it without my ipod, good job im off to a real gym end of the month cant wait :ohyeah:

Don't feel bad. The gym I used to frequent played country - YES COUNTRY - music all the time. If it weren't for the fact that I could go there in mid-day and was practically the only one there, and for my ipod I probably would have just worked out at home.

The kids at my gym on the weekend play Old school 80's and late 70's rock.

A lot of hair bands, some Led, pink F, etc

AL would fucking love it.

I must go to the only gym that dosent have music. Im a pandora whore so i guess it wouldnt matter if they did.

Mine played old school christmas music during the holidays. Now it's back to the same old chart topping pop crap. I always vomit in my mouth a little when I shut my personal soundtrack off. I don't like listening to music constantly when I'm at the gym but the alternative is jails institutions and or death as I would kill someone, kill myself, or go insane.

:rocker: My workout suffers when I forget my I~pod. Metallica, Megadeath, old Rid Rock, M&M, ttaht is waht I need to get my pump on :)
