How many Dips

How many unweighted dips can you do???

There is a poll for almost everything so I figured why not one for unweighted dips.
 
Personally, I did 55 around 3 months ago. I could probably get more now but who knows.
 
After 4 sets of bench 4 sets of incline and 4 sets of skull crushers I can do 25+ dips easily.

Ya, 55 was preworkout. I do 2 sets of dips after my chest workout, usually 35 then 25. After a good chest workout, it's tough to rep out a ton of dips. I think it's about time I started using weights, but my gym doesn't have a belt. Is there another logical way to do weighted dips other than someone putting a dumbell between your legs?

For a friend's belt we took a normal lifting belt... bought a small chain at walmart, hack-sawed it to a good length, and got a small screw-open carabener (sp?). Cost probably 5 bucks for the chain and carabener... he uses it and I think it works out pretty well for him, just hangin from the the big loop on the front of his regular lifting belt.
 
i tend to do mine quite slowly so nothing that high! probly only bout 20 ish

Ya, I suppose that would work. I'm surprised my gym doesn't have any belts, one would assume a gym would have something like that.
 
I bet I could still do more then 30 with a 45lb plate around my waist. I just do dips as a burn out exercise. I have to put too much weight around me to feel like I am getting any benefit from them.

So I should stop bench pressing 500 pounds and start doing pushups?
 
You could probably use an old backpack or something similar. That's what I use for weighted face pulls. The weight distribution probably isn't ideal, but I can't have anything hanging down anyways; my bar is quite low.

I've never done dips without already going through a heavy chest, shoulder, or tricep workout. It seems like most people put them in late in their workouts so they cant get as many. I have no idea how many i can do.
 
I'm guessing around 20-25 fresh... I haven't done them without training something else first since mid summer, and I stopped way short of failure then.
 
If anybody has considered getting a weighted dip belt but wasnt sure if it is worth it, i highly suggest getting one. I got mine two weeks ago and im looking for excuses to use it.

So... you highly suggest getting one, but you haven't used yours yet, or do you mean to say you enjoy using it as much as possible?

i've never seen any one ever use a weighted belt - where can u get them?
 
I estimated 21-30. I can bang out 15 for 3 sets with fairly short rest intervals and not hit failure.
 
Ya, I figure I have a slight advantage in doing dips cause I am a lightweight. I would really like to know how many I could do with a 45 lb weight hanging, that would be interesting. For some reason I was always pretty decent at repping out dips. We used to have to do them for gym class back in the day, and even before I started lifting I was always the top of the class.
 
I usually do four sets of thirty and a last set to failure, i always used a lifting belt with a chain on it which you put through the weights but it got pinched from the gym.

2 days ago I did something Ive never done before.
I STARTED my push day WITH weighted Dips. Dips and decline flies were all I did for my chest (specifically). My chest is still sore and my triceps arent.

3 plates. If you dont have a dip belt, get one.
 
How are these dips performed? Is it going all the way down, or partial reps?

I'd say 3/4 reps. For me personally, if I try and go too far i feel as though my delts are gonna rip. So I would say whatever is comfortable for the person. I would consider a partial rep going down like 4 inches.



how do u target triceps over chest when you do these?

For me, I noticed that if I lean forward as far as possible I hit my chest, delts and tri's real good. On the other hand, if i stay vertical I feel like i'm hitting my tri's and a small amoung of delts.

I've read all the arguments about whether or not dips will work your chest; some say no, some say yes. I feel a nice pump in my pecs after a set of dips, so that is what I'm baseing my opinion on.
 
i could do 20 dips with 90 lbs attatched to my penis
 
21-30 ~ all the way down...if at the beginning of my work out...

closer to 8 at the end of my workout...which is usually when tri dip happens for me...@ the very end.
 
if you can you should go to where your nipples are even with your hands, pretty much a full stretch.
