Jonathan Papelbon says he should close All-Star Game instead of Mo

I felt a little scared for the kid, as I wrote earlier in this thread.
But that mouth just doesn't stop. He's a dick.

Rivera just looked better.

IMO they both didn't look their best.

Papelbon obviously had the crowd bothering him, but managed to blow his fastball by everybody.

Rivera seemed to be overthrowing at times and lucked out by getting two batters to ground into double plays.

If I said Papelbon out pitched Rivera, I'd see where you were coming from, but I said Rivera didn't pitch any better than Papelbon and the statistics indicate that.

Ken Rosenthal was the one who chimed in saying that the quotes from the paper were entirely wrong and that Papelbon didn't mean what was written about him.

You think Joe Buck or Tim McCarver would say anything positive in regards to the Sox? ha.. I actually shouldn't say that, they were all over Francona's nuts, but you get the point.

I'll do a search to see what they have out there.

This one has other sportswriters hearing the same thing.

http://yankees.lhblogs.com/2008/07/14/papelbon-i-want-to-close-tomorrow-night/

Terry Francona has literally said all the right things when it comes to the Yankees, even to the point of saying heâ??????s hitting Derek Jeter second â?????because thatâ??????s where he deserves to be.â???
Kevin Youkilis, David Ortiz, J.D. Drew, Dustin Pedroia â???¦ the same. Respectful of the Stadium, the Yankees, the tradition, everything.
Then we have Jonathan Papelbon, who thinks he should close tomorrow night.
â?????If I was managing the team, I would close. â???¦ But Iâ??????m not managing the team,â??? he said today.
Sam Borden and some of the other writers there asked Papelbon whether Mariano Rivera had earned the right to close.
â?????I think we both earned that right.â??? he said
After acknowleding Riveraâ??????s status, he said he earned the right to close by winning the World Series last season.
Talk about delusional. Itâ??????s Yankee Stadium, heâ??????s having a Cy Young year, Mariano closes. Period, end of story.
Terry Francona wouldnâ??????t bite when asked what he would do. But Joe Girardi seemed to have idea.
â?????Terry is a wise man,â??? he said. â?????He knows what to do.â???

What are those periods between "Close" and "But"...

It's a Yankees blog, hardly a legit source.

Papelbon says he should close, then defers to Rivera

Confidence is a key element in a relief pitcher's mental makeup. And Boston's Jonathan Papelbon and the Yankees' Mariano Rivera, two of the game's best closers, don't lack for it.

Consider Papelbon, who on Monday suggested -- before toning down his comments -- that he should pitch the ninth in Tuesday night's All-Star Game rather than Rivera, even though the game is at Yankee Stadium.

"We've both earned that right; us, by winning the World Series and having the opportunity of having our manager there and our team being represented, and Mariano by what he's done for this role, we're in Yankee Stadium and blah, blah, blah," Papelbon said. "It's not that easy. Everybody thinks it's a cut and dry answer, but it's not.

"If I was managing the team, I would close," Papelbon said. "I'm not managing the team, so it don't matter."

I will say this, the other pitchers pitched better than both Mo and Paps.
Wow, that Cubbie was pretty good at the end.

Like me, the hitters must have been irked by that stupid glove thing Dempster does.

HA, I would complain if I was a manager. I think he does that to distract the batter.
That's funny the way he does that.

The fans in Yankee stadium booed the Sox players because the fans don't like the players. Simple as that. And part of that dislike is because the Red Sox have had more success recently.

The real question is should a sports fan hate an opposing player just because the opposing player's team beats the fan's team?

I have always hated Favre and the Packers since they scarred my childhood after beating Drew Bledsoe, Curtis Martin, Dave Meggett, Vincent Brisby, Ben Coates and the '96 Pats (I used to jerk off to that team),

of course. I'm sure in 9 out of 10 cases that player helped the opposing team beat the fan's team, so yeah, booo away, they are part of the problem:D

That isn't the only reason why I hate Brett Favre. The dislike started that year but grew exponentially over the rest of his career.
