Hey whats up was searching for forums on where I can ask people about how to work out and this looked like a good place, anyways...I'm 19 y/o and weigh 250 and I've decided that I wanna lose about 30-40 pounds. Ive been working out for about 2 months now and haven't really noticed any difference except for more muscle in my arms. I was talking to a friend yesterday and he told me that when you do cardio you need to keep your heart rate at 127-133, is this true because the only way I can do this is if I walk with an incline of 1 or 2. Every time I jog my heart rate goes up to like 150s even with 0 incline. I've never really paid attention to HR in any workout Ive done so far, I just went by calorie's burned. So what I want to know really is should I just walk with an incline to stay near that heart rate or just jog?

Also, any advice on lifting weights or doing cardio would be appreciated, I weigh 250 but it's not entirely all fat, I'm stronger than some of my friends who weigh about 200-210 so I can lift a good amount. Thanks!

Hello! Nice to hear you're lifting and getting strong!

Can you do me a favour and read the link in my sig on getting started? Come back with some numbers for your diet, we'll take it from there. Oh, and the cardio thing - don't worry about that. Cardio doesn't burn much, and you really need to tighten up your diet anyway.

Welcome to the forum. After you read Built's link you will want to subscribe to Fitday.com I think she may mention this in the link. At Fitday you will track your consumption. Fitday calculates your calories and also your macros which are Fat, Carbs and Protein. Don't change what you eat just yet, because you want to find your maintenance level. Report your findings back to Built and she will advise.

I would also recommend posting what type of workout you are using. Be specific!

I've been on a cut for the past 6 months using Power/Rep Range/Shock. P/RR/S can also be found in the stickies. Post any questions about this routine and either myself or someone here can help. There are a few here that use this routine.

Once you find your maintenance level for food, you are going to consume fewer total calories. This can be done easily and you can still get full. I've dropped 42 lbs. in the last 6 months and have lost 4 inches on my waist and have still retained good strength and size.

Last tip that really helped me. I went out and bought a set of cheap food scales. I measure out the food that I consume either in cups or ounces so I can enter this information into fitday accurately. You don't want to guess. Good information in, good information out!

By the way, I do very little cardio and have still dropped all of this weight. Cardio is not the main key here, it's consumption.

Good Luck!
