Yeah, Mitt was smart. He got out early, saved face & supported the ticket. I voted for him in the primary, and probably will again. I can't say I won't vote for Palin though. I don't think she's dumb at all. I think that's just the new tactic of the left. They latch on to the Couric interview, which was obviously bad, and will not let it go.. as if um, eh, um eh, Obama never um eh um had a bad interview. All these people discounting her as a viable candidate are fools.

They did it to GWB & have been told they tried to make Reagan look stupid, too. If Mitt get's the nomination something tells me he'd be painted as the "dumbass whacko Mormon".

And I would never vote for Colin Powell. I respect his service, but he's full of shit.

much of politics is about perception, and Palin's perception is a negative one right now as far as the general population is concerned. she has been painted as and in many ways embraced a far right, conservative stance. Thats not what the country is going to elect. because of that the republicans need to be smart enough not to run her against obama in 2012. it will be handing obama another 4 years without any kind of real discussion about what this country needs. right or wrong too many Americans look at Palin as a wacko. let her get the discussion heated up in the primaries, but I don't want her in the general ticket. bad juju for republicans. running her in the general will hurt republicans running for congress as well

The Republicans will not have a woman on the ballot as President. Hopefully, they learned that having a woman on the ticket as VP was an error. I know it's not PC, but it's true. We just can't have a woman as the Commander and Chief. Her military subordinates would sense she is a puppet of others with corrupt interest. Nobody wants to die for that kind of thing. The moral would be shot...

You know it's true.

^^^I'm not against voting for a woman for president, but I don't feel the right one has emerged on the public stage yet. on either side of the fence.

The new tactic of the left? Are you retarded? There is nothing new about it. The left made fun of GW for 8 years for sounding dumb during speeches. The right went to every effort to make Al Gore and Kerry sound dumb during speeches. That's not new, that's politics. I don't know politics past that point due to me age, but I am pretty sure that discrediting the intelligence of the opposition when they make blunders during speeches and interviews is as old as politics itself. It only seems new because you can't see your party using the exact same tricks as the opposition.

The right would have used it vs Obama if they could, but he was too great of speaker. Whether is a good president is irrelevant to most people, because he has such a good command of language that he will constantly earn new support, even when he is getting railed on the news.

Folks,

Palin is not l about "left" or "right." IMO.

The GOP is trying to dump her, ditch her, cut her, you name it.

The Question is: can they?

Palin has got to go, if the GOP has any chance to unite.

fuck uniting. I want the far right to break away and start it's own party

If moderate republicans would kick out the ultra conservatives, I would vote for them. But, that will never happen. The best I can hope for is that in a decade or so, the baby boomer Jesus freaks will die off. Then maybe the party will move closer to the middle of the spectrum.

I see the democratic party moving in the direction of more liberal over time, which isn't a good thing for the country. I still predict that democrats will run the country for a while until people get tired of the liberal progressives. I don't see the democrats getting any better over time. The democrats will destroy the economy even worse than the republicans did from 2000-2008.

I see the republicans as having lots of potential in the future if they can separate themselves from the religious right.

Isn't that the Libertarians?

For the most part, yes. If I was forced to pick a party, I would pick Libertarian.
But until they actually have a chance at winning, I will spend my vote keeping out the jesus heads.

Calling yourself a Libertarian while supporting Obama is an oxymoron.

The Republicans can no more shun the religious right than the Democrats can do to the far left loonies. To do so would mean the end of that party's power.

If you look at the actual policies of the American Libertarian Party, they could not be more anti-obama.

-lower taxes

-end foreign aid

-no gun control

-a more isolationist foreign policy, etc.

Every once in a while you come across a person, such as Bill Mahr, who hint at the fact that they are libertarian or quasi-libertarian, but in actuality they are just anti-religion. These people don't understand what libertarianism actually is.

Well, The Retard, I didn't call myself a libertarian. I said if I were forced to choose a party, I would probably choose libertarian, but even the libertarians don't represent me very well. I don't fall into any group. I don't need to have other people agree with me to make me feel better about my beliefs.

What you don't understand is there are free thinkers in the world like myself that do not vote party line. I don't know, call me crazy, but I vote on the individual and their running mate. I thought Obama/Bidan were better than McCain/Palin. I voted for Bush in 2000, because I thought he was better than Gore. You will always vote party line. No matter how bad they are, you will always support your party leaders. You are the pawns of the evil rich politicians that suck the life out of the country. You are on par with the people that voted for Obama because he was black, and you will never be able to see that.

So let me see if I understand you correctly. It's perfectly acceptable for you to

spend my vote keeping out the jesus heads.

But when I spend my votes keeping out the Democratic Party, whom I disagree with as vehemently as you do the religious, I'm wrong for doing so? :geewhiz:

In case you're new to politics, almost every Democrat votes down party lines. If they don't, the party abandons them, strips them of power, drops funding & pushes them out (Ever hear of Joe Lieberman?). There are, of course, exceptions to this rule, but in essence my vote to put a Democrat in office is another vote for the Pelosi-Reid-Obama agenda.

I'd vote for an Independent or Republican only....Period. In my liberal state of Illinios I often don't even vote for the candidates... such as this year when Mark Kirk wins the Republican primary for governor (as he is expected to). I will cast my primary vote for Patrick Hughes, the conservative, and if Kirk wins I will skip that section & not vote for a governor on the general election ballot.

My political views are mostly in line with the Republicans, but they are my views. I don't take Republican stances just to take them... and when a Republican doesn't share my views I don't vote for him/her.

You give me a Democrat in my state who is pro-life, pro-gun, low taxes, & for a small government and they will have my vote.... best of luck with that.

I would love to hear your explanation as to why I should abandon my principles & vote for the Democratic Party's agenda.

that's the senate race actually, not governor.

I don't think you should vote democrat. I don't want you to vote democrat. Look, don't read too much into what I say. I have no problem with you as a person. My issue with conservatives like you is that so many of your policies affect me directly. If you could just keep your religion to yourself, I would have no issues at all with you.

I could give 100s of examples. The biggest ones usually concern what other people do with their bodies when it doesn't affect you. You guys try to legislate your religious beliefs. You try to tell people who they are allowed to marry, who they are allowed to fuck, what they are allowed to ingest, and what they are allowed to do with their body.

That is where I draw the line. I'll take higher taxes, political correctness, and a shitty economy as long as I dont; have to worry everyday about being arrested for my choices for how I treat my body.

The democrats have their own brew of the same thing, but its political correctness. They want to tell me what I can and can't say.

I'll take the higher taxes and political correctness over going to jail for eating a mushroom.

I'm more libertarian in that category.. I don't care what people put in their bodies. If you want to do drugs, steroids, or anything else I don't think it's anybody's place to say no. The risks are well known & should be up to the individual to take them. I smoked cigarettes for 6 years knowing exactly what I was doing to myself.

Conservative policies affect everyone, the same way liberal policies affect everyone. Every has a right to vote their own way & the majority wins. You don't have to be angry because of the way I feel about something, we just disagree. In the end we both want a better US, we just want to get there in different ways.

Regarding keeping my religion to myself: As a Christian, I try to live my life according to my faith. I believe my faith defines me & hopefully influences every decision I make. That being the case, I can't check my faith at the voting booth.

For instance, abortion's a really big issue for me. As such, a candidate's stance on abortion is going to affect my vote. People always blast Christian's for "pushing their faith on people" when I think it's just simply Christians voting. They are afforded a vote just like every other citizen, but they are criticized for theirs.

I don't care who you fuck, or what you ingest as long as it doesn't effect me. I do feel that I have the right to choose what kind of society I live in and therefore I vote according to my conscience on matters. many choices people may make they think only effect them when in reality they effect the type of society we all live in.

A woman may say "it's my body and i'll have an abortion if I want" but I feel it's important to protect a child's life. I believe a child in the womb is just as important as a child 1 day old. we have laws against a mother harming her 1 day old child i don't find it hard a stretch to consider an unborn child in the same light.

this, and many other examples are very complicated and that is why there is a debate and in our country we get to choose the laws that govern our society. a person's religious beliefs have a large impact on the society they wish to live in. while I believe in separation of church and state I do not believe in separation of our conscience from our vote.

Well when you say it like that doesnt it sound like "SOCIALISM" according to the right wing nuts.

I get the abortion thing. I don't agree, but I get it. That is just one of those things that will never be settled. But other other shit can be settled. You conservatives need to talk some sense into your people, to help them make the transition into the 21 century.

Enforcement of controlled substances needs to be changed. If you are 18 years of age, you should not be convicted for putting something into your body.

Stim-cell research must be unhindered. They don't get them from fetuses anymore, so stim-cell research bans and funding make no sense and must go.

Legal sale of alcohol 7 days a week must go into affect. Not being able to buy a 6pack on Sunday is retarded, and it must go. God doesn't give a fuck what day of the week you drink beer.

Creationism must be kept out of science classes. If you want to teach creationism as a form of philosophy, so be it, but it has no place in a biology. I don't talk about frog DNA at Sunday school, keep Jesus out of our science classes.

Simple things that this could do a lot to reducing some of the anger that people like me have towards the conservatives.

um, liberals aren't rushing to open up drug laws my friend. you aren't going to find any elected official who is going to push for a law stating you can put whatever you want in your body once you are 18. No one is pushing to lower the drinking age even. This isn't a conservative issue. This is an American issue.

I have no problem with stem cell research, would like to see it properly funded.

I also don't want creationism taught in schools. science in science classes, religion in Sunday school, and the blending of what it all means should be taught in the home by parents.

problem is all 3 of these issues are not deal breakers for me. I don't vote for a man because of his stance on any of these 3 issues. economy, international relations, health care and gun control are personally much higher issues for me than the 3 you chose.

I want the government out of the economy, out of healthcare, I want a "walk softly and carry a big stick" foreign policy, and i think the idea of gun control is a myth and any limits on my ability to own firearms is an assault on my freedom. fuck the government.

I want nice roads, good cops, good education and the ability to fail or succeed on my own without influence.

Indiana was like that when I went to college out there...if we were drinking sunday we just bought more on saturday.. I never understood that law.

I know these aren't deal breakers. I just saying, if some of these things could be done, it would help the image of the modern day conservative. To the moderates like myself who pretty much just want to be left alone. You do your thing, and I'll do my thing.

Oh yeah, and leave gay people alone. Let them have the same rights as straight people. That shit would go along ways to improving your image.
Show the better side of Christianity.

homosexual marriage is an issue that gets touchy. it's not just conservatives that are voting for that. gay marriage is a social issue. it goes back to the type of society people want to llive in. we have the right to choose that society. this is not an issue where the only people effected are the couple getting married. this issue has complex, varied, and wide ranging effects. I feel GLAAD is just as responsible for anti-gay sentiment here in the US as the ultra-fundamentalist right wing.

I really don't think that these issues are as big a wedge as you think. if today all conservatives voted in favor of stem cell research it would really do little to improve the divide in American social views and politics.

Anti-Abortion and Anti-Homosexuality.....so the only logical means of Population Control is War and Famine.....the world has gone from 1.5 billion in 1900 to 6.8 billion in 110 years, 2 more years that will be 7, 13 more years we'll be at 8bill. and by 2040 we will be at 9 BILLION people roaming these lands...I say we should encourage abortions and gayness in the anus for the sake of our children and their children....

we are not in anyway close to reaching the limit of the earths ability to support life here. we don't need to be worrying about population control. what a joke. If a guy wants to screw another guy in his home I have no problems with that.
