What kind of car do you drive?

99 Grand Prix GTP
2002 - Chevy Tahoe
both fully loaded!

Finally got the wife to testdrive a Tahoe and she absolutely loved it. Now it seems she is trying to take it over as her everyday vehicle. Oh, well at least I finally got my first dream car!

Mudge - got any pictures of that 94 Camaro? That's some serious HP. :thumb: What are some of the details? I assume this is a small block. Is that number on the juice or any other power adder?

Me, I drive a Chevy 4x4 (black). It's descked out a little bit and has a Flowmaster exhaust. (you hear me coming). On sunny days during the weekends I drive a 68 Camaro SS. It's a 350, four speed car (numbers matching). Also building a second 68 Camaro that will be a Pro Touring car (406 SB with a 700R4). It should be ready next summer.

I saw someone mention a 70 Monte. Anyone else here into the streetrod or muscle car scene?

Since highschool I've slowly given up all hobbies and sports to devote more time to restoring cars. My wife calls it an obsession.:D

robbm I have a 30 ford pickup with a "boss 302". Blue body, with black running boards.

my dad has a 28 pick up roadster with a chrysler hemi!

Glad to hear some else is into the rodding scene! :thumb:

Nt thats a sweet looking ride, go for the 440, speaking from experience you'll probably spend as much on the 318 trying to squeeze out every last horse, as you would on the 440.

P.S. got any pictures?

I got a blue 1980 toyota pickup 4x4
6 inches of lift 33" tires and 100 hp at the wheels
top speed:75

Rob, http://docmudge.tripod.com/dynorun030902/index.html is my dyno sheet. Its a 94, heads/cam/shorty headers/yada yada car, all naturally aspirated (safer, cheaper).

Had the heads done by a friend back easy who does work for big-name Trans Am etc racers, good price, and low lift flow blows away stuff costing much more, so the car was not just top end, I could take off from second gear with no problem, stock rear 3.42 gears.

If I had long tube headers on the car, it should have hit 520 crank HP, I was around 485/490, but I live in CA so wanted to keep the headers legal just incase, plus long tubes have poor ground clearance.

Here is a pic of me napping in the car, at www.thunderhill.com which is one of the tracks I visit, with some other guys - www.ncracing.org

Ahh, and yes its a 5.7L, no stroker here (budget).

My plan is to sell this beast, and start a 67/68 Camaro project. I had a 69 Firebird and miss it, the first gen is the car of my dreams. I guess you could call what I want to do pro-tour, more of a road racer though, so a 6 speed and probably an LT1 - because the computer has an easy/cheap EEPROM to work with, readily available, decent power, etc Definately tempting to go EFI 400+ SBC though. LT1 can be taken to 421 (without relocating the bores), but it starts getting damn expensive, and honestly a 383/396 LT1 could put out 500 RWHP NA with a good solid roller cam, and still be streetable, which would still be tough to keep straight on the road. 17x11 for the rear probably, but I dont know how I could squeeze those on the front - although they do fit on my current car, all the way around, no tubs :)

Thats my dream, I like this car, but I love 67/68.

Damn you LT1/LS1 guys are hard to keep up with!! Those motors are sooo willing to make serious HP!! My ultimate plans for my pro touring car would be an EFI LS1 and T-56. But here in eastern Canada the guys at the salvage yards just giggle when you inquire if they ever have any late model Camaro stuff come in. Let me know if you get a first gen car in the future.

Sorry no pics (need to get a digital camera). It's a basic SS car with all the proper badging. Red in color (there's a million red camaros I know, but that's the correct color). Stock rally wheels and a 4 speed Muncie. Cars not perfect, but pretty good. Someday I would love to have a Hemi anything  , but it will probably never happen.

Keep the dirty side down everyone :thumb:

There is a guy with an LS1 going to go into a 68, a guy who was one of the early LT1 in a first gen cars, 6 speed and all. His plans were to go with a twin turbo setup.

If I were spanking rich I'd consider an LS1 or something other than an LT1, but the LT1 comes with a good computer system, easily editable (no DFI, FAST etc needed!), and even with stock ported heads has good potential. The LS1 has a different firing order, better intake manifold, but damn those heads are just nasty ridiculous. The guy that did my heads didn't do any welding on them, just gutted em, and got peak flow numbers around 278 CFM @ .600 lift, but some LS1s that he has worked on get up into the 340 CFM area, without fancy re-welding the runners!

As a comparison, my cam a 234/246 to make the power I did, the LS1s have been doing the same RWHP numbers with 222/230 cams, both hydraulic rollers. Of course there is plenty of jealousy to go around, but the cost difference between the two setups is a bit prohibitive :( :)

I am very, very sure that I will get a first gen, the question is when. I may leave the engine/trans alone for awhile while updating the suspension, the first thing to go is the control arms in front, those things steer WORSE than moder day dually trucks. www.camaroZ28.com was my home before lounging around on this board, I have over 7500 posts :)

Okay, got a new car and wanted to update mine. I had the Dodge Dakota 4x4.... Here's my new baby. It's a 2002 Mitsushi Galant LS-V6. Love it, been wanting one for a long time!!

I am in college so I don't have a great car. I drive a 1994 Dodge Ram 1500 Burgandy.

Well, I had an awesome '00 Tacoma 4X4 TRD, but traded down so I could buy a house. I am now in a '97 Nissan Maxima. It's got a sun roof, so all is well.
Leslie! You've got a Seqouia? Damn, I want one of those!

::UPDATE:: My wife and I just bought a 1954 Chevy Bel Air that we are gonna restore and drive to car-shows and drive in's. should be fun, if anyone here is still on this forum in about 2 years, i'll have good pics available... right now, its on blocks and all dismantled.

My current ride a 2002 VW Jetta GLS 1.8 Turbo, 178hp. I love it!! White, black leather interior, 17 inch wheels, sport suspension. Sticker was like $27,000. This car hauls butt!!!

My baby.. :( sold to pay for lawyer costs.
1992 Mustang 5.0, org auto converted to 5 speed with 4.10 gears, bolt on this and thats... really load!! Miss it :(

have also owned.. 3 69 Road unners, a 70 Cuda, 3 Challengers, 66 Chevelle, 74 Camaro 350/4 speed, and so on.

NT go with the 440. The 318 isn't going to make that much difference in gas mileage unless you go with a newer Magnum motor and nclude the fuel injection. Even then you are still talking about 15mpg at the most.

Good god! You got rid of an old 5.0 for a nearly 30k mini-car? ouch...

I had great handling (koni doubles, etc etc), and nearly 500 HP for much less than 27k

I didn't plan on getting rid of it, just had to pay for my divorce lawyer.... blah!!

But there were a few other things to consider.. that little kid in my signature needed some comfort.. air conditioning!!! I had Eibach drag suspension with Lakewood drag shocks so the ride wasn't exactly great, and I was spending nearly $350 a month in gas.

I'm thinking about opening a shop soon. A custom street/strip shop. I've worked on everything from 32 Fords to 8 second drag cars so I know my way around. I'm deciding what would be a great rollingg "advertisement" and as of now I'm leaning towards a 65 Falcon/Futura with a 5.0 5 speed upgrade, inculding the FI and will also toss in the late Mustand front and rear suspension. Could be interesting :)

32 Fords, those are the open wheeled roadsters right? (not the old 1927 t buckets but the "high boy"?), if I know what your talkin I love those things, although open wheel I think is technically illegal in CA :(

I know of only one 8 second guy, its a V8 (duttweiler) turbo Buick GN, Chris Chow, I believe its 1680 HP (not able to run on most dynos LoL), it was formerly a V6 9 low 9 second, with no back half work done.

If I could have one Ford, it would be a GT-40, not practical of course, but it gives me a woody.

My dream rig is a 68 Camaro though with updated suspension parts (handling baby!) and hoping for around 450 RWHP, which is still more than I know how to drive at speed on a track, stoopid to the max :)

You have 32 Roadsters.. and then you have 3 wiondow coupes, 5 window coupes, sedans and sedan deliveries.

My dream ride... 32 Ford 3 window coupe, chopped, channelled and sporting a 426 Hemi with a 6-71 blower!! No fenders and some big meats!!

In Calif it is legal to run without fenders as long as the vehicle is under a certain weight.

Ahh, I rememeber a certain chop topped 32 Ford with meats n skinnies, open front, 2 seater - oh well it was cool whatever it was!

Ahh, didn't know about the weight thing, hmm. As long as I can get ~3000 pounds I think I'd be happy, although 2800ish would be nice, just dont know how cost effective that'll be, we shall see.

I drive a very economical, family 4dr. Hyndai Elantra '97. It's silver and really a beautiful car. I've kept very good care of it and it's classy looking, and kinda sporty too. I love that car. It goes to the eldest daughter in less than 2 years on her 16th birthday. I'm upgrading to a Honda Odyssey I hope LOL. Always gotta keep the burgeoning family in mind when it comes to vehicle purchases.

I have a 73 Camaro that I have put lots of time and money into. It has a built (by me) small block with 3 in. exaust and all around disc brakes. Next on the list are some good aluminum heads.

My beater is an 88 Pontiac Le Mans, something like 72 HP and 90 TQ, 32 MPG average, 4 speed manual, its been die hard and absolutely loyal for the 5 months or so that I've owned it, course I'd like something with more getup :)

Dream beater probably a 73 or previous 280Z with a V8 and a 6 speed, or a Fiero with a larger V6 and maybe a power adder :D

Now that you've stuck the knife in my heart why don't you just twist it around some? You want to put a Mopar motor in a Ford??? Why don't you just go ahead and drop a Chevy 350 in there? That way you can go to the 7-11 and buy a Big Gulp and a cam shaft. It's a freakin' Ford!!! You want power? Shoe horn a 428 Cobra Jet in that puppy!!! :thumb:

Nothing wrong with a Chevy 350 :D That and a nice 6 speed are my plans for a 67/8 Camaro.

I agree, in a 67/8 Camaro a 350 is awesome, but in a '32 Ford??? That's just WRONG!!! :finger:

Hmm, well yes and no - I'm not that much of a purist (there is a CART driver with a twin turbo Toyota V8 in a 67 Camaro, how is THAT for WRONG!). Chevy is such a generic standard, they stick that thing in everything, Porsches included :)

The one thing superior in my mind is the sound of the Ford firing order, and of course the non-siamesed cylinders but eh... The LS1 fixed that but its too much $ for me.

up here we call a hotrod without fenders either a highboy, cause you can see the body sitting on the frame, or a low boy, if the body is dropped down over the frame.

Oh and I agree with pitboss, I'd put a hemi in anything!
