On whether or not you think steroid use can(will) cause prostate issues.
I am getting ready to have a PSA test and some other blood work done because I have been having some symptoms of a prostate issue.
I have read a lot on the subject and I understand the prostate continues to grow as a man ages.
But from some of the information I have found it appears one of the reasons for this is because as a man ages his test levels drop and his estrogen levels increase which causes the prostate to enlarge.
Since we all are steroid users I'm wondering if while we are doing our cycles and taking a ai to control estro will this be a benifit to prostate health or not.
Also DHT(dihydrotestosterone) plays a role in the prostate enlarging I think.
And do you think certain steroids are better or worse for the prostate.
All these things are related to hormone changes as a man ages so since we play with our hormones with our useage I'm just trying to put the pieces together.
Perhaps some of you long time users and vets can help enlighten me on this subject.
I'm no newbie and have been playing with cycles for 30 years but this is a subject that I have just recently became interested in knowing much more about.

I had hoped to pick some brains on this subject of prostate health and steroids but I guess one reason for the lack of in terest is because most of you fella's are a lot yuounger than I am.
If it's not a concern of many of you trust me it will be one day. Knowing about DHT and which steroids convert more to DHT and having information about estrogen and keeping things in check should be a concern to anyone who decides to use steroids.

I'm one of the older bro's and it's great to see someone bring this up. The problem is very pervasive and prostrate cancer strikes 1in 10 men !I have not seen any reason to believe AAS usage causes this but if you do have an enlarging prostate test Will make it worse. Having a PSA is the best thing to do after 45 and see, to catch this early is vital. The AAS ment is being researched for HRT for men who have this issue as it does not affect the prostate. I get my PSA twice a year ! Good luck .

Cant help you too much on this. If I recall correctly though, heavy posted one of the more recent studies that testosterone has little to no effect on the prostrate.

I do know that anabolics are sometimes used in conjunction with traditional chemotherapy treatments for men with full blown prostate cancer. I remember reading at least one study minimizing the risks of aas on the prostate. It is an interesting question, and I think it makes sense that such treatment would be effective for people suffering from the disease and undergoing treatment. Looking around the net, it is interesting to see how much contradictory information there is on this issue. As you know I'm getting up there in age, too, so prostate issues do become more of a concern for those of us 40+.

imo all aas are related to the hypogonadism. Actually hypogonadism is associated not only with a decline in serum testosterone, but also with a rise in serum estradiol. As a potential solution a Dr. Scally PCT program its a pretty good , he devised the protocols to deal even with the worst cases of anabolic steroid induced hypogonadism. I think there is some merit to a shorter PCT, or even just the use of clomid, even if the cycle has been brief.

I think the impact PCT is going to have will depend a lot on how suppressed your HPT axis is (usually related to the length of use).

I have read some where that GHRP-6 is a very good pepide that can be use without any affect on prostate.

Anabolic steroids are listed as one of the risk factors for prostate issues. I wouldn't touch it if you're at risk.

The problem with that is there are several things that will be a risk factor that does not include AAS. I am on HRT and have blood work done througout the year and that is something he checks. Like anything its all about moderation.

Thank you very much to everyone that posted.
Yes there is a lot of contradicting information out there.
It seems like the more I read the more I see this. I am aware of the ole myth that says that steroids do swell the prostate but I'm not certain thats true.
I'm going to have some tests run on the 20th. PSA and some blood work plus the regular exam.
I'm still kind of leaning toward
the fact that as test gets less as a man ages the estro gets higher and I feel the increase esto has something to do with the swelling of the prostate.
Sometimes I wish I was more like a scientist and could understand better all this lingo I have been reading but as I stated it doesnt help that there are so many differant ideas about steroid useage.
I even read one article that stated that by increasing your test it can be benificial to prostate health. And that having low testosterone is the reason it increaases
in the first place.
I know there are many of us on this site in the upper age catagory so perhaps after I get some of this figured out I can post back with my finding.
And MDR....you'll never be as old as me bro. LOL

Thanks OP for starting this thread. I've been thinking as though I've been having a lighter stream when going, but then again, I'm always thinking something's wrong with me lol. I'm 38 so I'm starting to think about these things. I've done a handful if light annual cycles as I believe in the smallest effective dose. If your cycling and not going overboard, I would think aas would have minimal negative effect, if at all. Blood test is the only way to know for sure.
