You should always cut back on dairy products, such as cheese milk etc. My understansing it has to do with estrogen, but i am sure there are more on site with more experience.

Milk will raise estrogen levels, but I drink a gallon a day. I also run Tamox for gyno prevention so that helps keep my estrogen levels in check.

Whole milk for me. I run through about a gallon every 5 days. Nothing too crazy.

Not sure about regular milk, but soy milk contains phytoestrogens that increases the estrogen levels in our bodies. So I keep clear of soy.

There's a vegan dude at work and I told him soy elevates e2 and he flipped. So to get back at him, after the gym I went and got a pound of pulled pork and ate it right infront of him. Sucker.

Vic is absolutely correct. Soy is our enemy when on gear. Stay away from Soy milk and soy based protein powder.

and how do i know the food i eat ir what i drink doesnt contain soy...!

most of whey proteins contain soy...!

If you are eating something that you suspect contains soy, read the label.

Use whey without soy, plenty to chose from. "Allthewhey.com" is my favorite.

So what I'm getting from this is regular milk is ok as it contains whey and casein and not soy which is what actually raises estrogen?

Milk is fine man. Though, I would opt for skim. Have your milk. Take care.

Thanks for the comments guys glad I can keep it in my diet.

When on a bulk diet i drink full fat vit D milk!!!
Need those extra calories. Just my 2 cents

Since when does (dairy) milk raise estrogen?

Actually nuts, legumes, soy, beer and flax are all good sources of phytoestrogens. And nuts have the most. Soy just gets the bad press.

I don't limit my milk intake nor do I go nuts if something I consume contains Soy - but I will not use something that is specifcally sold/advertised as being primarily Soy. Other than that, milk consumption doesn't seem to have a noticeabel effect on my estrogen levels b/c I've always consumed a boat load of whole and/or 2% and the anabolic properties of my gear seem to build tissue as they should.

I'm curious about the relative proportions here. I don't know too many people for whom flax or beer comprises the majority of their intake, but I know a great many vegetarians who consume a substantial serving of soy with every meal.

I was just referring to amounts of estrogen relative to a unit of volume/weight. And, I would argue that a vegetarian who derives their protein from one source is not a healthy vegetarian. Kinda like the vegetarian who lives off of cheese pizza, soda, candy and french fries and thinks they are healthy.
But, there are a lot of people who eat of lot of nuts, and drink beer and have no idea of the amounts of estrogen in them (which I don't think is an issue at all), and then won't touch soy milk cause it has estrogen in it. Unless you are eating shit loads of these products, it's nothing to worry about.

And that's what I was getting at, so thank you for that. I don't think too many bodybuilders are eating nuts by the jar and drinking beer by the case - but I do see a great many vegetarians who overconsume soy. I've moderated on a vegetarian bodybuilding board; it's something I've seen far too often.

Indeed - I believe the term is "pasta-tarian". They're the same ones who eschew HFCS, but use agave syrup as a sweetener - while agave is neither a natural sweetener, nor healthy: some agave syrups are 90% fructose! You'd be better off using table sugar!

I didn't know that about agave, thanks.

And I think the soy craze is due to the old thought about needing to eat essential amino acids in one meal, and soy protein is the only vege source of protein that is complete. we now know that as long as you get plenty of essential amino acids everyday, you're getting enough. But, soy has become a staple for many vegetarians and many cultures and is being over consumed. and not to mention it's cheap and can be used in many different ways.

I do think there is an unwarranted fear by body builders for soy though. Soy, as part of a well rounded diet can be a good source of protein, fiber and tons of phytonutrients. And beer too!

Well, you can have 'em both, thanks. I hate beer, and the only time I eat soy is when it's deep-fried. Yep, agadashi tofu - Built's guilty pleasure. ;)

I sincerely doubt that dairy products effect E2 levels. I drink milk and eat cottage cheese EVERYDAY. I have heard that soy products can, although all the studies I have read were conflicting.

Heard it's perfectly ok if you don't mind the puffy look ? Love my milk - two gallons a week.

Dath I'm with you brother.
I use lots of whole milk, always have and think 2% tastes watered down.
I have even heard of bulk diets where guys consume a gallon a day.
My main milk useage is with my massive protein drinks or the occassional protein drink with just one scoop before bed.
IMO milk is healthy and I know there would be those that would dissagree with that statement.

drink the fuck outa that milk man. i drink half a gallon a day. the vit d is good for ur skin and its good for decent cals for bulking
